I really can't figure out why this took so long. Most other manufacturers have figured this out long ago. My Lexus from 10 years ago had this feature and it worked flawlessly. I wonder if Telsa is using a different set of sensors than most traditional auto manufacturers which led to a more ground up design?

AP1 used a dedicated sensor. AP2, for whatever reason, uses the cameras and that's why the feature went away for >1 yr

So every beta has external testers, in your thinking?

Before this gets out of hand ("snippy") I think different organizations have different meanings for "alpha" or "beta" testing, and there's a lot of overlap.

Not a definitive source, just an example definition: Alpha vs. Beta Testing

But I think we can all agree that what Tesla calls "beta" testing is really "field" testing, no?

From a programmers perspective the difference between an Alpha and Beta is that an Alpha is tested internally, a Beta is tested externally. Therefore any releases we see will always be at least Beta releases.

It'd be a comment on the quality. That is, it's in beta, but it shouldn't be.

EDIT: I hope that it's not being rushed out. I could see why they'd hold it back: being automatic - it's something people would turn off if there are false positives.

I'm starting to realize I don't like that I know that these software updates are pending. It's like looking out front watching for the delivery guy for an anticipated package. I just keep refreshing my Unifi dashboard.

Also, why is my car downloading Netflix? Flaw in DPI?
