2017 VIN Model X Order and Delivery

This site may earn commission on affiliate links.
Ordered Model X 75 D June 21st (Located in Toronto, Canada)
Order Confirmed June 24th.
My VIN is 576xx
Estimated delivery range July - Early August.
Estimated delivery range then changed to August - Early September
Estimated delivery range changed again to September - Early October, which it is currently sitting at right now.

Reached out to delivery specialist and he was claiming that it may just be a clerical error but they are awaiting confirmation on that. He did confirm with me that my order is scheduled for production mid August. Not sure how long production takes but I am assuming shipping it to Canada would add to the wait time.

It appears your car didnt enter into PRODUCTION yet, Your order is way ahead of mine(Jul02). Interesting to see when your order would be go into PRODuction.

I also noticed someone from Europe (Norway) ordered right around your time went into PRODuction. May be they are currently processing "Europe & Inventory " cars ? just guessing ..

Model X 90D (in stock in another city)
Vin: 521xx
Ordered: July 13, 2017
Vancouver, BC
Expected delivery: 6-8 weeks (end of August to mid September)

Vehicle was in stock in Toronto and currently has a $20850 discount (it went up recently 4k after id ordered it, I W's shocked at this). Pretty excited and hoping it arrives early (although it hasn't shipped yet so unlikely)...

is anybody receiving notice of a custom order hitting production? Just curious...the threads don't show that there has been any movement and wondering if things have stalled. In looking at past order fulfillment it would be a good guess to assume production entry about 2 to 3 weeks after a confirmed order; however, these days it doesn't seem to be the case.

Taking a deeper look at the "New Inventory" the most current VIN I could find was 57XXX

They are much higher: Model X P100D 5YJXCBE46HF060455 | Tesla

My impression is that apart from a few overseas orders they have been building inventory cars for most of the month...

Thats just a couple dozen off from my VIN....I placed my order 7/9 - Im assuming that there is some sort of sequence to all of this. Whoever is picking the builds doesn't like Premium Sound; it seems to be a very rare option.

Me too, My VIN is few number off . I believe they are building Inventory & Overseas cars. My guess is , During past quarter last few weeks they might have put an hold to overseas & inventory cars to build US vehicles to count towards end of quarter deliveries.

Lets see if anyone from recent orders posts about going into PROD

I made a custom order of a Model X 75D back on June 22, confirmed June 24. Had a estimated delivery date of August - September, it then got changed to September - October. Contacted the delivery specialist and told me that my order is scheduled to go into production mid August. Wasn't given a reason as to why the delay, so I am in the same boat as you. Maybe contact your delivery specialist.

Well, that throws out the theory that the VIN is sequential in its build. This shows ready for pick up and Im pretty certain that anyone that ordered by early July had a VIN lower than this one. Mine certainly was and it was ordered 7/9.

Pretty hard to crack their code except to assume that maybe its not just Euro delivery as the X Factor. The two examples of higher VINs are Performance versions - maybe those get preference. Mine is just a 100D on order.

Because of the Model 3 news and press coverage, I presume they spent a bunch of time making inventory MS 75 and 75D along with variety of other cars for inventory preparation on the back of the Model 3 news. They'll make custom orders soon enough - custom orders are "locked in customers" while inventory can be positioned at sales locations for immediate sale and if they didn't make those, immediate sales couldn't occur around the Model 3 release. Custom orders have $2500 locked up in deposit so likely won't cancel du to waiting.

your x factor is being out of the country of origin - I think those create a different timeline. Im a 30 min drive from the factory and I think local deliveries get some status in the production cycles. I just assumed that the VINs were sequential and in series....so it throws off my guesses when I see a car in the market for sale with a VIN that comes after my assignment. Haven't seen a good explanation of that anywhere on the forum.

Just took delivery of my inventory MX90, VIN 514XX. Absolutely love the car, but unfortunately some of the trim is unaligned and the tail gate seemed unaligned too. Delivery experience was a little underwhelming in the new Fremont center, I had to push really hard to get the items as part of the due bill. They came back to me and said since it past the water test and there were no safety concerns, no fixes were necessary. I had to push to the delivery manager that I don't expect one side of the car to have unaligned trim for a new car and finally they agreed to do it. Also they didn't have any swag bags or fob holders to give out.

Did you buy the inventory online and then pick it up to see it for the first time? Would be nice if they could let you walk through the inventory lot first to inspect before you commit to buying that specific unit.

With regards to sequential VIN numbers, in the beginning they were released sequentially. It is believed that Tesla purposely began randomizing the VIN numbers to prevent traders from predicting production numbers. Tesla never admitted to this, so this is all speculation.

Also, it is believed that Tesla groups vehicles with similar build to make things more efficient. For example, sending a big batch of Red cars to paint so that they don't have to change-out the color between vehicles.

Also, parts shortages can cause some builds to be pulled off the line until parts arrive. For example, running out of 22" wheels could delay those builds.

Finally, Tesla does batch per region as well, leaving west-coast deliveries for end-of-quarter and international deliveries at beginning of quarter.

Lots of reasons why VIN numbers are not delivered sequentially.

I did ask, but since it was at another delivery center I couldn't easily go see it. In hindsight, I should have asked them to take pictures. For the discount I got on the inventory unit, with everything I wanted, I certainly won't lose any sleep that a few things aren't aligned. Crossing my figures I won't run into any other issues!

Wow. What a joke. Tesla really has to realize that they are selling a premium product and train the employees for that. This isn't going to work out well for them now that the S & X are no longer production constraint...
