So my dilemma continues. Car was damaged in transport and it is a write-off. A member on here was good enough to help me source identical cars which could be a replacement. One was a perfect match down to the color of the seats, but like everything in life, nothing life, it is never that simple, the car in question was more expensive than my custom order and the Tesla rep said, if we wanted it, we would have to pony up the difference. Since there was no way i would be doing this, we asked if this could be escalated to finance to see if they could make this happen. This is day 3 and we are still waiting on feedback. My guess is, it is not going to happen (atleast not anytime soon), our locked in rate expires on Saturday
I am not by any stretch of imagination an accountant or understand how accounting works, but I assumed it would be cheaper to just do a straight swap with our damaged vehicle, than for us to do another custom order, have another 6-8week wait time. It is honestly becoming more of a hassle than I anticipated, Somethings you just need to be done and dusted with, because it becomes a distraction.
Anyone being in this situation before? Any ideas/suggestions on next steps?

Yeah, why can't they just give an "adjustment" for delivery issues to match same price. especially if it's pretty similar. Now if it's a 100 instead of a 75, different story. But for a matter of a few grand, it should be "adjusted" to match your price, especially to help with Q3 sales.

So I’m confused... if it’s really identical, why is the new one more? The original was custom, of course since it was on a factory transport. I would think they would be happy to have you take an inventory car.
It is identical. According to them, i got some adjustments based on the time of purchase that the other one doesn't have. But I do have an update, shortly after posting this here, I did get a call asking if I still interested and now the adjustment has been made. So the switch is being made.
Curious this, I finally got access to the configuration. Mine was 642**, this new one is 654**, while mine showed APH3, the new one is showing APH2. Based on the conversation here, I would assume it is really APH3, since it was built shortly after mine
Fun fact...I was told the driver of the truck transporting the original, went under a low bridge and took out the top of the car. Now ain't that something?

OMG on the damage! And, yes, it’s AP3 code, AP2.5. There is only one assembly line. :)

Congrats on the replacement! You would think a transport driver would know the route/bridges/to stay in the middle, etc.!

I know right (on the driver), now something as benign as transport makes my heart skip a beat lol. Now the car has to make its way up from Florida to NJ, my fingers are crossed. But i am so glad, i do not have to wait another 6 - 8 weeks for a new one. I have to update all my paper work and then wait for DS to schedule a date all over again.
I must say, the staff at the store have been great,

It's good to hear that things turn out positively.
One thing I learned recently regard the special financial rate is you can complete your document to lock in the low interest rate before taking delivery of your vehicle if you are expecting delivery in October.
Also, you can request the vehicle to be transported straight to your house with no addditional cost.
Hoping all go well for you with this new MX.

Also update on mine, I am taking delivery of my MX this Saturday.

Thanks for the kind words. I am doing the whole documentation thing all over again. They did offer to deliver to the house, but i really don't want that for 2 reasons, 1) I want to do a proper walk through at the store, I suspect, if they bring it to the house and i find something not up to scratch, i wont have the courage to say NO, as I wouldn't want to see it taken away. So that is more about me than anything else. Also want to really drive it home and take a few detours on the way.

While it's generally true that a lower VIN means an older build, it's not necessarily a guarantee. Especially early on, the VINs were all over the place and no indication of when the vehicle was built. For example, they have reserved VINs for other parts of the world and built them after larger VIN numbers.

Exactly, the real test will be the door sticker, in the case where you can't watch My Tesla change (as you can with your own order).

Not sure if there's any other way to tell a production date besides the sticker/Monroney (same info)?

My MX was delivered Monday. Been busy driving since then.

Car is great, perfect. No problems whatsoever.

I totally underestimated the blessings of a bigger battery:

- the MX uses more kWh/km (or mile), about 10-20 % depending on frequency of hard acceleration
- compared to my MS85 (with almost 250,000 km and slightly degraded battery) the rated range is 20 % more
- charging speed stays higher as the battery is filled

Long trips (SC enabled) require a lot less SC time.

A 120 or 140 kWh battery is for me!

Pretty bad experience I just had. I used an ACH to pay on My Tesla and delivery specialist is telling me I have to wait a week and a half longer. Don’t understand why- at a dealer, I could hand them a check and leave with the car. Delivery was slated for tomorrow, but now, I have to wait until next next Monday. Used to appreciate the Tesla ordering process, but i would rather just hand them a check and leave than need to wait for this long.

Very strange! I took delivery earlier this week and paid online on My Tesla the morning of my delivery day and it was fine.

Apparently “we have these policies in places to protect our business.” They probably are afraid I don’t have enough money in my account and sent them a check randomly. Well, if it’s anyones loss, it’s theirs, because delivery was scheduled for tomorrow, but since it got pushed back, Tesla won’t have my delivery number in the q3 report. :) But I was looking forward to it so much! Don’t know if I’ll survive another week!

Uh.... ACH is instantaneous (or overnight). I gave my DS a (personal) check for $10K for the balance on the spot (they even had me down as prepaid, when I hadn’t (I decided to not let them find out later!).) That’s really weird. If there’s a timeframe in advance to use ACH transfers, then, it really needs to be spelled out. I would assume overnight would be more than enough.

You are in Texas. As policy, they didn't ship from Fremont until payment is made in full in the past. How was your car shipped without payment in full? And by holding it through end of quarter, your full payment is logged in the financials as "Customer Deposits". It helps boost the C.D. number and I would suspect others in Texas have the same "quarter-overhang" experience. Ask around of others in your delivery center when you eventually take delivery. Get a loaner "today" in order to let you experience some form of resolution.

VIN: 637XX

Ordered 7/24/17
Confirmed 7/27/17

UPDATE 9/18: Status changed to "Your Tesla has been built and is in transit from the factory" and delivery range is now "September 25, 2017 - October 2, 2017", consistent with agreed-on date of 9/29

UPDATE 9/29: Delivered! Took it home today.
