2019.8.5 speeds up super charging

I know there is a lot of talk of V3 supercharging and unlocking existing supercharging to 145ish KW/H

But, the normal super charger has been changed. It looks like they changed the charging cut offs around 5%

Note that I was still getting 119kW at 50% and it starts to taper at 52% to 118kW. It used to start tapering at 47%.

It stays above 100 to 57% where it drops to 99. The fast taper starts now at 57%, it is down to 92 at 60%.

Note the electricity charge $4.14 for 34 kWh or $0.12.2 per kWh.

My car has performed as you describe since we bought it last August. When it starts to taper depends on a number of factors, including the state of charge when you plug in. Plug in around 12% SOC and it won't start to taper until 50%. Plug in around 25-30% state of charge and it starts to taper sooner, sometimes at soon as 45%.

My route usually has me starting at around 10% SOC. Today was a warm day (note 80 temp in pic), so the car had 13% when I started the charge. The supercharger flickered back and forth between 119/120 to 47% the usual point where it starts to go down. But, today it stopped flickering and held at 119.

Perhaps I was not very clear in my first post. It used to be when the battery hit 47% state of charge it would cut the supercharging speed down. Now it waits until around 52%. In my screen shot above it was still at full speed 119kw/h charging rate at 50%. I refer you to the before in this youtube video:

As you can see it starts to taper at 47% and by 50% it is down to 94 kw/h charging rate. Now it does not slow down to 94 kwh until 59%.

The point is that if you have 2019.8.5+ and go to a 120kw/h station that has not been upgraded, you charge faster now since they do not cut down the speed as aggressively as before.

I don't come to the same conclusion. The charge profile you recorded has been seen in Supercharging data from at least 6 months ago. Your numbers are on the high end but within this dataset by A Better Route Planner. To my knowledge 2019.7.11 is the only version that has a different charge profile for Model 3. This was done specifically for V3 Beta testers and targeted SF Bay area owners. Subsequent versions (up to at least 2019.12) appear to have reverted back to the pre-2019.7.11 charge profile.

Model 3 Consumption and Charging

To be clear, it's not my dataset. It's from the link provided below the chart.

You may very well be seeing a different charging scheme but I can't say conclusively. I have always been surprised at how warm the battery needs to be to see full rate though.

Taking a step back, I would expect any increased charging rate to be called out specifically in the release notes as they'd most likely want to "take credit" for the increase.
