Two days ago I posted the following:

"We drove uneventfully from Phoenix to Santa Fe (the car is a dream!) but, on our return trip to Phoenix Monday morning, we had a total shutdown on I-40 about 40 miles east of Flagstaff. We had enough power to limp off the freeway, got to a good parking area and then soon lost all power."

Several folks have asked for more info when a diagnosis was offered so here goes...

Just spoke with the SC a few minutes ago and have been advised that the problem originated from a defective cable weld in the wiring harness that shorted out, necessitating replacement of both the cable and the junction box.

Apparently this is from a non-Tesla manufactured part. And, as I understand it, there is a maintenance bulletin in effect so it's a known issue.

The junction box has already been replaced and a new cable has been ordered.

There is also a possibility the drive unit has been damaged but they will check the car out and "replace as necessary".

Actually, I think it's pretty cool that the car is engineered in such a manner that I was able to "limp" instead of it just dying right there on the freeway so kudos to Tesla.

Also kudos for the great support they're providing.

UPDATE - I just got a call that the car is ready! Pretty great work, if you ask me!
