2020.40.8 ghost braking

After upgrading to 2020.40.8 I notice a lot more phantom braking when on AP. Usually it happens in poor light conditions but almost every day now. Did anyone else notice more ghost braking incidence on the last software version?

Gee the radar and cameras have gotten much better now that they can detect ghosts. :D
Seriously though, I am not seeing any of the phantom braking on my X with that version. I drove about 250 miles this week and didn't experience it locally or on interstate 80. Maybe just something about the area I was driving is different.

Prior to 2020.40.8, I frequently drove through three separate areas that would always trigger phantom braking in my car. This firmware version completely fixed it for me.

It really looks like Tesla is playing whack-a-mole with this bug. : /

It'd be interesting to hear what the FSD Beta users have to say about the issue.

I agree! My Misty has gotten a bit more nervous lately, breaking randomly (often just for a second and not aggressively), and then proceeding. On roads I've driven lots of time, day or night. Oh well, maybe in the next update?

I think my issues could be also weather-related: rain, dim light, bright street lights. However, the car is clearly more nervous (scared of what comes next maybe) - I noticed the car slows down more than it did before going over small hills and when seeing other cars that can potentially move into my way.

First drive on v2020.40.8 was this morning.

Good: No phantom braking. (WooHoo!) Greatly improved lane placement through long sweeping curves on freeway.

Bad: AP still cannot handle anything but a straight line with any kind of polish, like a halfway decent human driver would. There is one freeway curve on my commute that I always test AP/new version with. My car can do semi-OK with this gentle sweeping curve, but only when barely doing the 65mph speed limit. However, if am driving with traffic flow (75+), the AP still starts & stops turning too late for the corner, effectively looking like a drunkard / terrible swerving driver. Again, this 'bad' performance was much better than it's ever done before, but its still piss poor performance on an easy 'gimme' freeway curve IMHO.

Result: Probably disabling AP again after I try it at least one more time. Til next version...

on 2020.40.8 on my car phantom braking has returned so severely that I have stopped using TACC entirely on several roads on which I have had no problems for more than a year until 2020.40.8. Lane keeping has improved but my copilot is more frustrated than I am. It's is back to driving entirely by hand until a new release fixes the problem.

Speed limit reading I also error prone, but that is easier to cope with since I don't expect it to work anyway. Even with the newest data it still has construction zone limited that haven't been any longer active for at least a year.

I hope the FSD test data is much much better. The consequences would be disastrous if not...

When I got my MY in June, I had a lot more phantom braking on the interstate, but I really don't get phantom braking now...
Except I have noticed that blinking lights at night- like trucks running hazards because they are moving slow or on the side of the road- I get phantom braking about a third of the time... Not very scientific, but something I noticed.

Every time there's a software update we get posts from people who assure us all of these are true:

The car now phantom brakes more often
The car now phantom brakes less often
The car is now quicker than it was before
The car is now slower than it was before
The cars range has improved
The cars range has gotten worse
The app fails to connect more often
The app connects more reliably
The auto wipers work much better
The auto wipers got much worse
Some location-specific speed limit behavior has improved!

AP handles curves better
AP handles curves worse

Retired from the list as I've not seen much about them lately but could always come back:

Phone as key works better now
Phone as key is less reliable now
Voice commands work better

Streaming music has gotten better
