So I have a 2020 Y Performance VIN 39XXX and didn’t get the Boombox feature. Thought I read on other forums and Twitter that mid 2019 forward the external speaker was required. Did your Y get the feature and if so what VIN?
No speaker for me. Or at least not active. I haven't actually gone to look, but low speed is quiet. My understandng is that the feds required it by Sep 2020 but extended the deadline again. I've read that Sep builds forward have it. I don't with an 8/23 VIN 368xx.
Same problem for me - build 29XXX - picked up end June....any ideas if its possible to get the speaker added / enabled ? EDITED Check out this video First Pedestrian Noisemaker in a Tesla Model Y? [VIDEO] - TeslaNorth.com Looks like the Y made up until September have the wiring but not the physical speaker....if anybody makes a call to Tesla please let us know here if its possible to order the part?
We just downloaded and also did not receive Boombox. Y is a May 2020 build and has the external speaker.
There is a video where an M3 speaker was put in and once they double-scroll wheel rebooted it worked. They say they have a May & June MY(?) and both have the wiring
I did not get Boombox in my Model Y, VIN 24XXX either but did set up a mobile appointment with Tesla for Jan 5. Stay tuned for update on progress.
Ive sent a note to Tesla and booked a service appointment for Jan 13th...will update here what i get back
Yes I read there was a device bulletin suggesting Tesla would add speakers to Model Ys without in order to comply with legal requirements. Again stay tuned
Picked up my MYP end of June 2020 - no speaker yet... but I’d like Tesla to install one for me (for free!?) but I also want the coconuts.
I'd probably go for it for free although I'm thinking I really like the initial quiet before the tire/road noise kicks in. I guess I can always disconnect it. I've got a couple delivery issues I never took care of. I haven't done a service appt yet. Too lazy I guess and there is really just one issue that is kind of a must.
I’ve been debating this... my MY has the speaker, bur liter after I backed it into my driveway off the truck delivering it, I added the isolation kit to disable it... Does the low speed sound and reverse sounds override custom sounds? Because if they don’t, then you could play around with it when you wanted and then switch to your custom sound which is just a mp3 with dead silence and it would essentially play “nothing” and be in stealth mode. Then when you want snake jazz or something else you could just switch back to the defaults or another custom track...
Suggestion for individuals thinking of disconnecting this factory safety feature. Consider the liability you are potentially exposing yourself to before disabling a pedestrian safety feature. For all the VIN’s feeling bad they don’t have this feature now, enjoy your quiet ride, the gimmick will wear off in a few days.
