If you set your update preference to advanced and then press and hold update on the screen for about 15 seconds (maybe more) it should force an update.

Absolutely not true at all. Why does stuff like this keep getting spread around? Toggle or hold that button down to your hearts delight, it wont do anything.

Live chat Tesla and have them refresh your car. It will push the update to you.

Perhaps it’s regional?

Lots of guys on the UK forum have had success with this.

Just checked the original source of this info and it states it doesn’t seem to work in the US, apologies for the inaccurate post.

Seems to work for everyone that has tried it in the UK.

I’ll have my car on Monday so will try it for myself then.

How to force updates

Hence my response apologising for posting inaccurate information.

Right, thank you for acknowledging that but you still reference that it would supposedly work for UK owners which is still false.

When newcomers read this thread they’ll see “it worked” 7 times over and o Luna couple people saying “not for me”. When in reality, it has never worked.

When you open the Software tab the car automatically checks for an update... when Tesla is pushing a mass update it tends to make the news and then people go check their car and guess what “happens” when they press 5 or 2700 times? A new update....

There is no way to force an update.

Somewhere is the thread discussing this where it was debunked. Tesla controls when your car gets updates (by VIN).

And while you are able to call (or live chat) the Service line, I personally think it is bad form. Unless you are experiencing actual operability problems, don't waste their time as it screws things up for people with genuine issues. To do it just because you want it is childish.

I get the joke but you’re screwing your new fellow Tesla owners over by perpetuating this rumor. It’s funny for a second but then they consistently keep posting “why isn’t it working”. If we were BMW owners...well that’s a different story.

There’s a place for trolls, it’s called Reddit.

it seems like Tesla changed its policy. According to chat, they will no longer push out updates unless Tesla already tried to push it to you previously and failed. Now you just have to wait until it’s your turn.
I am very glad to hear this. Now hopefully people will stop calling.

I just got my first update. I guess I jumped a few revs and have 40.2 now.
As the wise and experienced posters wrote, I just waited until it was my turn :)
Good job! Now your car will be with the rest of packs. Sometimes you will be at the front other the end and mostly in the middle when it comes to updates and when they roll out. Use teslafi firmware tracker as a TOOL. to know when software is looking like it is being pushed out widely. DO NOT go out and push the screen advance or hold it it doesn’t do anything. Just opening the software page will check for update. If the check for updates takes a while to complete it is communicating with the server and will grab the update since your vin has been flagged. Any other times the check software screen will return “your cars software is update” with 3-8 seconds.

enjoy you car and get out and report bugs when driving. That helps them move the fleet forward.

Thanks @Tholland!
I'm just starting my first cup of coffee so I'm not 100% together yet. But, I'm not really understand the TeslaFi web site you suggested. They seems so few cars reporting and I don't see any details about releases (other then rev).
Let me wake up some more before I try to understand, unless you are only looking at % totals. But again, the number of reports seem really low to use in any form of statistics.
Cheers,
John

Bumping this thread because it has been more than 3 weeks since I got my SR+ and I am still stuck at 2019.31.104 and not getting updates. Anyone else in the same boat? Thanks.

I have gotten 3 updates pushed to me since taking possession of my M3 on 12/04. Latest was 40.2.1 last night. I have software updates set to advanced and at home on WiFi, it performed an automatic check when I pressed on the software radio button. I let it do its thing as recommended, went inside and made myself a drink.

You can open the Tesla app and request a service appointment for software. Once you do that they will contact you the next day most of the time and tell you they have pushed you the LATEST SOFTWARE for you cars vin. And then cxl your appointment. Just like before when you pickup your car it takes some time for them to register that with the system. Like how it takes time for your tags to come unless your transfer tag within the same state. But try the thing above and that will do it. You will need to be on WiFi to download the update most of the time. Sometimes they pushed it and it downloads over LTE. ONLY ISE THE SOFTWARE APPOINTMENT trick when you absolutely need to.
