GLOVIS CAPTAIN continues to head direct to Zeebrugge, she is well ahead of the worst of the weather and has wisely arranged for an earlier arrival at midnight. Once she has unloaded her continental freight I expect her to load the RHD vehicles left by GRAND DAHLIA and Model S/X from Tilburg. She will depart on Sunday evening for Southampton where she will arrive early on Monday morning.

RCC ASIA left the Panama Canal yesterday and whilst initially she headed for the Mona Passage, it’s pretty clear that she has now elected to enter the Atlantic via the Windward Passage. Accordingly, she will remain in an area of intense thunderstorms and encounter some higher seas later today and winds of 30kts+ directly on her beam. There is no stabilisation on these ships and the rolling, and particularly the righting, can be very uncomfortable. Her next challenge is named Tropical Depression 13, and RCC ASIA will want to break out into the Atlantic and get as far north of this storm as possible. The northern edges of these storms hold the worst of the weather and so she shouldn’t hang around.

GLOVIS SIGMA was originally going to depart from Pier 80 tonight however she will now depart around this time tomorrow. I expect her to come to the EU. Her biggest challenge is Hurricane Genevieve, a category 4 (5 is max) hurricane, which is tracking north along the coast of Mexico’s Baja California directly in her path to Panama. As it moves north it is expected to be downgraded to a Tropical Storm but GLOVIS SIGMA will not want to rush headlong into it. She has delayed her departure for as long as she could and so I would expect her to make her way gingerly south until the storm subsides further. I did have her ETA in Zeebrugge as 11 Sep but it may slip a day or two, we shall see…

GLOVIS CHALLENGE is waiting nearby ,anchored in the Bay, and once Pier 80 is clear tomorrow she will quickly move alongside. There isn’t much for her to load and so she is expected to depart tomorrow night. Her destination is yet to be confirmed however I expect her to head to China.

The next ship scheduled to arrive will be GLOVIS CLIPPER on Monday with GLOVIS SUNLIGHT due on 29 Aug and finally K. ASIAN BEAUTY on 4 Sep. This ship will be coming to Europe. She is currently off Freeport, Texas and will be hoping that INVEST 97L, which is heading her way, will veer to the north on arrival into the Gulf of Mexico.

I just spoke with Tesla.
Apparently my car is in transit for Belgium then onto delivery in the Uk mid to end of September.
They said it is on a ship called RCA Asia?
Never heard of that one.

Whilst the MAERSK NIJMEGEN is heading to Antwerp, the containers with bits of your car in it will be unloaded in Rotterdam. They are then moved to Tilburg to be reassembled into a car and it is then sent to Zeebrugge for passage to Southampton. RCC ASIA will arrive in Zeebrugge on 01 Sep and a couple of days later will arrive in Southampton with your car on it.

Di you think there will be more cars shipped to the UK this quarter than Q1 2020?
I'm going to revise my earlier answer on the basis that it now looks like we will have 7 ships coming to EU in Q3.
If the size of the ships and their capacities are examined then Q1 has a slight edge however if you recall not all the cars delivered from the last ship of Q1, GLOVIS CAPTAIN, were successfully delivered in Q1 because of COVID lockdown.
On that basis, I think Q3 will likely exceed Q1 figures.

If you are waiting for MODEL S or Model X

Although Model S and Model X are made in the same factory as the Model 3 their delivery journey to you is markedly different.

Both Model S and X are shipped partly assembled in containers (3 to a container).

They are moved by road from the factory to the Oakland Joint Intermodal Terminal where they are loaded on to a train.

The train then takes about 9 days to travel to Houston. (actually BNSF Pearland).
The containers are then moved by road to the dock at Barbers Cut where they are then loaded on to a scheduled container ship that eventually arrives 15 days later in Rotterdam. There the containers are moved by road (or barge) to Tilburg in Holland. Your car is removed from the container and then joins a mini production line where it is reassembled. It is then moved to Zeebrugge and shipped to Southampton.

As can be seen, all this takes time.

Finding your car in this complex logistics chain is difficult but there is a man who can. @Vedaprime is the specialist in this area. You can find him here but he normally resides on Twitter.

Ships for possible Model S and Model X shipments are:

MAERSK MONTANA arrived Rotterdam 3 Aug
MAERSK IOWA arrived Rotterdam 10 Aug
MAERSKA IDAHO arrived Rotterdam 17 Aug
MAERSK NIJMEGAN arrives Rotterdam 22 Aug
MAERSK OHIO arrives Rotterdam 24 Aug
SAFMARINE MAFADI arrives Rotterdam 31 Aug
MAERSK MONTANA Dep Houston 23 Aug Arr Rotterdam 7 Sep
MAERSK IOWA Dep Houston 30 Aug Arr Rotterdam 14 Sep
MAERSK IDAHO Dep Houston 6 Sep Arr Rotterdam 21 Sep
MAERSK OHIO Dep Houston 14 Sep Arr Rotterdam 28 Sep

Love this thread, some amazing insights. Mr M, great update on MS & MX. Any idea how they find their way to Ireland? Is this typically by landbridge or shipment directly to Dublin port?

Was told a few days ago my X is likely on the MAERSK NIJMEGAN

Hello ship tracking fans, here’s something you may not have spotted. Whilst Marine Traffic tends to be most reliable for AIS hits (location/speed), if you go to MyShipTracking.com and search for ship name, you can then use the options on the left to select “Nautical” for map type and then also select “OpenSeaMap” on the options.

This then gives you a real-time view of ship progress aligned to the navigation lanes that they use, it works particularly well for ships arriving into Zeebrugge. Further benefit is it updates every time the AIS updates, so in this scenario you can stick on your best captain’s hat and imagine you are on the high seas.

Happy ship following. Live on channel 1 is the GLOVIS CAPTAIN chugging towards Zeebrugge.

I'm sorry but I don't know the answer to that. Let me know if you find out though, please.

You need to have a look at vesselfinder.com . Click on the icon that looks like a map on the right below the dividers. Choose the bottom raster map. Now your talking..
