Why did you decide to send the check to Tesla? I am paying half by cashier's check and other half thro DCU financing. I was planning to get the check at my address and bring both checks on the delivery date. Did you pay everything before taking delivery? DCU approved and was planning to send the Docusign that night and send a check the next day. I told them to hold as I still don't have an exact delivery date even tho I have a VIN and it seems like the car won't even be in Rockville before Feb 18th. So i am going to ask for the check next Monday or later.
I decided to use DCU as well, and the process was smooth. There are these details to pay attention to for anyone financing through them:
1) They use Equifax. Remove any credit freezes on your Equifax account so they can pull your credit before you submit your loan application. Otherwise there is a generic "internal system error" error message when you try to submit the very simple loan application. I submitted multiple times and finally called them to ask why I am unable to submit and the lady explained about the credit freeze.
2) Your Motor Vehicle Purchase Agreement (MVPA) that Tesla generates automatically should show "Digital Federal Credit Union" in the line where the financed amount is shown. Ensure you have this in your MVPA. You can call Tesla and they will update it over the phone, and they will regenerate the MVPA instantly. This document must be uploaded to DCU after you login, or by clicking on the upload documents link in the email they send.
3) Have DCU make the check payable to "Tesla, Inc." when they send it. I had them send it to me instead of directly to Tesla. I will bring a second cashier's check for my down payment when I take delivery.
4) In case something goes wrong at delivery and you refuse to accept the car from Tesla you can send the check back to DCU and they will cancel the loan.
5) The loan starts accruing interest from the time you docusign the DCU loan agreement, and not when Tesla cashes the check.
6) I got the 1.74% APR rate for 65 months and I did not use direct deposit with them. I am happy with this rate.
7) To speak with someone, call the DCU toll-free number and have them call you back instead of being on hold for more than an hour. Works great!
