2021 Model S: No Silver Wheel OEM

On the order page today I find that neither wheel option is available in silver. Black finish only.

I hate the looks of black wheels. Now I’ll either have to paint the Tempest wheels silver or buy aftermarket wheels.

Am I the only Tesla guy who doesn’t care for the looks of a car with black wheels?

Pretty much yes 😄

As someone who loves black wheels on these cars enough to own two currently, I'm also not foolish enough to think that everyone has the same taste as me. I think it's another in a long, long, LONG list of oversights on Tesla on these new cars.

There may be a solution. A number of Tempest Wheel posts, e.g. "Question about the new Tempest Wheels" in May 2020, include photos showing the mag wheel under the Tempest hubcap is silver colored, and resembles the older Model S standard wheel, but without center cap and lug caps. We will just have to see what the wheels look like when the cars are delivered.

Or it might be preferable to retain the Tempest wheel covers and have them painted silver to retain the claimed 40 miles of range attributed to the Tempest wheels.

Nope you’re not alone. It’s odd to me that the Tempest wheels are black and there’s no lighter color wheel option (even as an upgrade).

I don’t think they look terrible, but it’s not for me. I don’t need everything on the car to be “murdered out”.

Both of your cars look fantastic!!!! Are those 20's on the 90D?

I’m spending $10 for carbon fiber wrap to cover the silver part of one of my Tempest wheel covers to see how it looks on my midnight silver LR+. I have already chrome deleted and tinted the windows. I think I may be just trying to put enough labor in it so I cannot justify going plaid. After I finished maybe I should post a photo here and take a vote if I should order more to do the other three covers. Cheers

I do feel that the Tempest wheels in either color is a terrible option. Just looks junky to me. I think tesla Had many nice standard wheels on earlier versions.
now it think they use these to force you to upgrade for 4500. I know you can do better
With. Aftermarket wheels, but I dont
Want the hassle. Only aftermarket stuff I will do is have a detailer Put protection for on for The paint and if escort works well with Tesla, I would love to have another escort max ci radar system installed. Had it on my last sports car and there is group out of Michigan that was able
To personalize the interface integrating it with my speedometer and speakers. Was very stealth.

oh and tint glass where needed

I’m a function over fashion fellow. I have made it from Portland OR to Medford OR easily without even charging to 100%(with Tempest wheel covers installed). I took them off once and it made over a 4% difference (suppose to be 2% but I think that is at lower speeds). 16 miles of range isn’t much but it is what got the LR+ over 400 miles of range. I have SlipStream wheels with winter tires on them. They look nice but not a critical deal for me.

OK, kinda crude but I wanted to get a feel for how the carbon wrap would look going over the silver parts of the Tempest. Not sure it looks good with the smooth black plastic. With the midnight silver, tinted windows and the chrome delete it might be getting a bit dark(Vader is how my daughter puts it) I figured $7 and 15 minutes was worth a shot. Lining up around the center cap will take some careful trimming. Opinions???

I'd rather have silver, but I doubt I'll care enough to do something about it

Getting rid of all the silver on the Tempest covers made it too dark. I do like how it looks wrapping the black sections. Makes it a bit more interesting. Not nearly as nice as the grey Slipstreams I have the X-Ice Snows on but for $20 and two hours of work I am not unhappy. Got some positive connect at the local supercharger this morning. I really need to put on some tire dressing today

Hate them also, what a disservice.

No. I think they look like a black hole. There are beautiful wheels out there and should contrast with the black of the tire (I am somewhat qualified as I am a retired designer).
