2021+ Model S tires and wheels: all things (Plaid, LR, OEM, aftermkt, 19, 20, 21, summer, winter etc.)

Not sure what they are referring to as Plaids can be delivered with 19" wheels from thr factory just fine and signature and other after market wheels should fit fine in 19 unless they have some odd build. There are plenty (probably more) all season and winter tires options for 19 " over 20.

Also if you are going to swap tires seasonally you might as well use proper winter tires instead of all seasons. They work much better as all seasons can still turn into hockey pucks in the right conditions.
Not all wheels of the same size have the same inside barrel size. For example, the stock 18" aero wheels that ship on the non-performance versions of the Model 3 cannot fit over the larger brakes of the Model 3 Performance, however some aftermarket 18" wheels can.

In this situation, it's the other way around. The stock 19" wheels have a large enough inside barrel that it fits over the stock brakes, but T-Sportline's have a narrower inside barrel that doesn't.

You may want to check the diameters of the 285/35R20 and the 305/30R20 tires. The nominal diameter of the 285/35R20 can be estimated as. 285X0.35X2/25.4 + 20 =27.85 and 305/30R20 305X0.30X2/25.4 + 20 = 27.20 . For reference the stock front tire is 265X 0.35X 2 /25.4 + 21 = 28.30 and the rear 295X .30X 2 /25.4 + 21 = 27.97. I don't know if the Plaid will tolerate those changes in OD and will not throw some DTC (diagnostic trouble codes) and shut down ABS active handling traction control or put you into a limp mode. Depending on where which axle the plaid gets it's speed signal your speedometer calibration will be off and will read low. I did a calibration on the speedometer on my Model X over 2 miles and it was pretty much spot on at 50 mph it read 49.99 mph.
No concern here. We are the first one to test out the upcoming track spec setup (mathcing the same spec). In the Tesla catalog they use 285/35/20 & 305/30/20.

Yes, the rear is shorter in diameter but the car will calibrate itself after few miles of driving.

It set the stock interior street 1/8 mile time Record : see below

Brook from dragtime ran the same setup before. But he recently change the rear to 305/35/20 for thicker sidewall and wanting to compare the differnce between 305/30 & 305/35

The issue could be with their 19 inch wheels and not Tesla wheels. I went out and looked at the radial clearance on my Plaid between teh brake caliper and the wheel. It was eyeballing it 1 1/4 inches. So as long as 1/4 inch of radial clearance is ok the 19 inch rims would fit. I am like the pig in a ham and egg breakfast (the chicken was involved but the pig was committed) I have my wheels and tires on the way so I am committed. None too soon look at my post above on summer tires and cold weather .

I enjoyed your attached video clip. IF you back calculate the effective H P of the Plaid based on ET and weight you will come up with mid 1200 hp and on mph mid 1300 hp. The clip substantiates the effective HP of the plaid

there is a pic of my 19" T-sportlines on my plaid... they fit, just too skinny (19X8.5")

So has brooks said if the 305/30's or the 305/35's are faster on the car?
 
Just got a nail in the side-wall (can't be plugged) on my refreshed Model S LR.
Is there anything special about the OEM tire or can I replace with any Michelin Pilot Sport 4S 295/30ZR21 XL 102Y?
You’ll want an exact match. Or at least , I would. Should have the “TO” marking for “acoustic foam” to reduce road noise. See attached image.

I'm struggling to find a winter / all weather set up. Based on where i live i need snowflake or M&S rated tires. We get a lot of rain with the odd snowfall. I'm hoping to take delivery of a new Plaid S this week. Unfortunately i don't' have the luxury of waiting for a different rim set for my set up this year (i'll need to sort that out properly next year). Are there any other options for tire sizes for the 21" OEM rims other than the wide staggered set up? i was hoping to be able to run a narrower square set up for this season.
 
I’m running 295/30-21 on 10.5” all around
I think the issue is the width on the front tires needs to be less than 285. Not confirmed but that is what I have gathered from what other users are saying. I get bad howl on my Michelin all Seasons with 285 on the front.

I just switched my snow tire order from a square 285 setup to 255 front and 285 back. Should have them next month so will be able to confirm myself if they howl since they don’t have foam.

Are you running Signature Wheels? I’m running 20” sv105.
