What are the precise sizes of the PSAS4S that seems to have the hum? Do they have the hum in the OEM sizes?

Right now, I can not recommend the Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4s. They have a constant hum/howl sound from 40 - 75mph. It is loud and very annoying.

After my post yesterday where I mentioned I was running All seasons, another Plaid owner PM'd me and asked me if I was hearing a hum/howl at the same speeds I was. I only had about 10 miles on them yesterday, but today I put 135 miles on them and that howl is definitely a deal breaker. I'm hoping break in after about 500 miles fixes this, but my hopes are not high.

The other user that reached out has had them longer and taken it to both the SC and his tire shop. This is what they told him:

"the combination of specific width of wheels and tires on these tires is creating a resonance due to wind channeling in the pits thats creating the noise. There's little we can do about it except going narrower or stretching out the tire more"

I have an appointment with the SC in a week for alignment (my steering is slightly off center, from day one) and height adjustment/settings for 20" rims running the tire sidewall that I am. I'll post back if that solves anything.

Besides the howl, the tires very good and really grippy. I did a few 0-60 launches today and consistently got 2.32 - 2.35 on uneven road with barely any slip (285 fronts and 305 on rear). They are also fairly quiet above 80+ and on good condition roads, otherwise you will hear everything.

Michelin AS4 are one of the most grippy all season tire you can purchase, and some owner has no issue. Howver, because the percentage of owners who experience in hum/howl noise are getting higher, will lead us to not recomened the tire from this point.

Keep in mind Michelin Tire offers 60 days satifiaction program. Please contact the retailer or tire shop you purchase the tires from and have them issue the exchange. Some shop might be not willing to do it first, so small push is necessary.

I am looking for a set of wheels and tires for winter use for my model S Plaid. I am loathe to go with narrower width tires. I am planning on going with all season tires as the winters here are not that bad and all season tires have been more than adequate with my all wheel drive vehicles.

The all seasons that are definitely properly rated (Y rather than just V (149 mph), and also XL) for refreshed Model S Plaid and LR are listed above. None seem to be yet available on Tire Rack or Simple tires etc., but they likely will be a little later in the year for the season.

It isn't clear if the winter tires will also be rated Y. It doesn't indicate that in the parts book, but I suspect that they must be.

If you are going to swap seasonal tires anyway between winter and summer, you might as well get proper winter tires instead of all seasons as they are much much better in cold temps and on icy slick surfaces. All seasons will still turn into hockey pucks when cold and icy enough.

I agree... I'm surprised it's okay to go with AS tires with 100Y & 103Y instead of the extra load XL 104Y and 107Y. There are so many more options of 103Y / 103W compared to 107Y / 107W. Good to know XL tires are not required.

am trying to figure out a winter tire/rim strategy. Do I (1) use the stock 19" rims for winter tires, pulling the A/S tires off right away, and then try to find decent 20" setup for summer use? Or do I (2) get a square 19" setup (rims, tires) for winter, and keep the OEM setup for summer. I don't want to lose a lot of summer range by switching to 20s, so it would help to know what the stock weights are. Of course the "aero" factor comes into play as well.

I think using the stock 19” with Tesla specified winter tires listed above (PZero Winter or Contis — or if you are in Canada, the Nokians) would be best.

I would be interested in a square setup if that still handled ok. I’ve seen that some people are putting their square older Model S wheels on the 2021 models but I would be reluctant to do that.

Sorry to be slow but are those prices per unit? Or for 2? So if I wanted to buy 4 Arachnid wheels is it that price x 4 or that price x 2? It lists 2 next to it so confused if that means the price listed gets me 2 of the item? How much would would it cost to buy the Arachnids wheels and tires from Tesla?

The 2 means you need 2 pieces of the 9.5" and 2 of the 10.5" so 4 x $1,210 = $4,840 and then tires $350 x 4 = $1,400 for a total of $6,240. Oh plus the 4 tpms.

Not sure if the is the right thread to ask about spacers but here we go:

Does anyone have a retailer and part details for spacers on a 2021 Plaid with the 21inch wheel setup? Thanks.

The tuck rule is really annoying :)

Does anyone have the weight of the stock 21" rims? How do they compare with the aftermarket rims from Unplugged, TSportline, etc..?

My mistake was ordering the 21" with the Plaid and now having to pay almost as much as amazing 21" aftermarket rims for my 19" winter rims. I don't believe using the staggered 21" setup is an option for winter.

To all
I found a set of 20 inch 10 inch wide flow forged wheels at T Sportline. They are going to be fitted with 285/35R20 Michelin all season tires.
The lowest cost way to go (which I flubbed) is to order the wheels and lug nut caps (yup you need them) from T Sportline and the tires from tire rack.
You also need the "purple" T P sensors which are blue tooth for the new wheels. p/n1490701-00-b and the other assocaited parts 1038975-00a, 10338973-00-a.The package with the TP sensors is around $4000.
Here in NY the all seasons on my other all wheel drive vehicles are more than up to the winter driving task. I still want excellent traction at normal winter temperature conditions. I don't ski and don't need the focus on winter driving so no snow tires.
The OEM 21 inch tires CANNOT be exposed to 20 degrees F and flexed AT ALL See below.
The quote below is directly from Tire Rack. It was also in my prior email it might be worth sharing with Plaid owners.
“Note: Tires exposed to temperatures of 20 degrees F (-7 degrees C) or lower must be permitted to gradually return to temperatures of at least 40 degrees F (5 degrees C) for at least 24 hours before they are flexed in any manner, such as by adjusting inflation pressures, mounting them on wheels or using them to support, roll or drive a vehicle.
Flexing of the specialized rubber compounds used in Max Performance Summer tires during cold-weather use can result in irreversible compound cracking. Compound cracking is not a warrantable condition because it occurs as the result of improper use or storage, tires exhibiting compound cracking must be replaced.”
Here is the link to the location where the above quote came from. It’s no joke. I am going to store my summer tires in my heated basement and bag them.
https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Michelin&tireModel=Pilot+Sport+4S&frontTire=635YR1PS4SXL&rearTire=93YR1PS4SXL&vehicleSearch=true&fromCompare1=yes&autoMake=Tesla&autoYear=2021&autoModel=Model S&autoModClar=265/35-21F 295/30-21R

If you crack the treads on the summer Michelins you are looking a $2000 down the drain by the time you get a set on the car.

In speaking to the people at T Sportline the 19 inch rims have a clearance problem with the larger brakes on the Plaid. Lighter wheels and tires will enhance multiple aspects of the handling, ride and performance of the car. But it's NOT a cheap date. Nice looking wheels !!

Not sure what they are referring to as Plaids can be delivered with 19" wheels from thr factory just fine and signature and other after market wheels should fit fine in 19 unless they have some odd build. There are plenty (probably more) all season and winter tires options for 19 " over 20.

Also if you are going to swap tires seasonally you might as well use proper winter tires instead of all seasons. They work much better as all seasons can still turn into hockey pucks in the right conditions.

You may want to check the diameters of the 285/35R20 and the 305/30R20 tires. The nominal diameter of the 285/35R20 can be estimated as. 285X0.35X2/25.4 + 20 =27.85 and 305/30R20 305X0.30X2/25.4 + 20 = 27.20 . For reference the stock front tire is 265X 0.35X 2 /25.4 + 21 = 28.30 and the rear 295X .30X 2 /25.4 + 21 = 27.97. I don't know if the Plaid will tolerate those changes in OD and will not throw some DTC (diagnostic trouble codes) and shut down ABS active handling traction control or put you into a limp mode. Depending on where which axle the plaid gets it's speed signal your speedometer calibration will be off and will read low. I did a calibration on the speedometer on my Model X over 2 miles and it was pretty much spot on at 50 mph it read 49.99 mph.
