2021 Model Y Sideview Mirrors Limited Adjustability

I took the information from this thread and gave it to my service manager with the Service Bulletin number when I brought my car into get service at the North Houston facility in February. When I picked my car up, they didn't fix it, claimed they compared to another Modey Y and it was the same adjustment range. I had to claim it was dangerous to drive and even explained how to fix. They quickly took the car back into the shop and within 15min had it fixed. So, moral of the story is they suck. Thanks for letting me vent... hopefully everyone else gets it fixed without having to get indignant.

We picked up our Model Y on 12.10.2020. Everything was perfect with the delivery EXCEPT the drivers sideview mirror. I was adjusting it at Tesla and couldn't quite get it right. I figured I needed to play around more with the seat setting and mirrors on the road. Basically I need the drivers sideview mirror to be tilted more out and up. I was going crazy because the passenger side was fine and I've never been in a car where I can't get the mirrors right. As it stands right now I have a huge blindspot - I can either have it tilted in and up so the side of my car takes up half view out of the mirror or down and out so all I can see is the asphalt.

I called Tesla and reported the problem. They called me back about an hour later and said that it is a known issue and they are working on it. It has something to do with the Auto-dimming feature on the 2021's and how that has reduced the range of motion that the mirror can be adjusted. My delivery specialist said it might be able to be fixed through software update??

This issue does not seem like it will effect everyone - my wife is 5'3" and has no problem (I'm 6'5"). We also have an S and I I have no problem with that.

Anyone else experiencing this? or have any additional info?
I’ve had that at the delivery and Tesla in Toronto/Woodbridge fixed it for me.
It’s only a problem for tall people where we push the seat back and low.
I’ve provided them two pictures of the issue thru the app.

This has been bothering me since we picked up our Y in December. Just stumbled across this page while looking for a fix and what a great find! Just went outside, popped off the mirror, snapped the two tabs and snapped the mirror back on again. Now I can adjust it properly.

Thank you so much for finding this fix!

Same problem. Showed mobile service this thread, including that toolbox article number. He still refused to do anything about it, and also wouldn’t show me the content of that article. Finally just had him pop the mirror off and I broke off those tabs myself. Works fine now.

I have to say my experience with Mobile Service has been great. I have had the same technician for my first call to install the garage door opener and today to look at the side view mirrors. I created the ticket yesterday afternoon, and got a response saying they would be here today. The technician started by saying that the tabs inside the mirror were made too long. He didn't want to cut them but instead bent them back without taking off the mirror. He said that way, the would still protect against being tiled to far out. He adjusted the passenger side mirror as well and then helped me adjust the mirrors to help eliminate the blind spots and made sure that I saved the settings. He also explained that the auto tilt setting could be separately adjusted when the car is in reverse (but also needed to be saved). Finally, he told me that he couldn't adjust the autodimming feature and suggested that if its still a problem after these adjustments that I take a picture at night and send this in.

Please do submit your feedback about autodimming to them. I think a lot of people need to complain officially about that autodimming feature before they set it as priority. They've submitted mine feedback in the store and I gave deposit but didn't go through purchase because of that. Now I'm just waiting for it to be prioritized so I can continue with the purchase. It kind of sucks that you need to buy a new car and then replace the mirrors or call technician to modify something that was factory made...
