2021 MYP Waiting Room

So today a different VIN shows up and a new date range of 1/3-1/9. Thoroughly confused with Tesla.

1. what happened to my original VIN? Did they give the car to someone else?
2. How can they not have builds and orders planned out for weeks? Seems totally random.
3. Frustrated we missed out on the year of supercharging. Calling 45min before our appointment for pick up on New Years Eve while we are driving to the SC and telling us it hasn’t been built yet seems like a bunch of crap.
4. No other options but to spend 2k more for FSD and try and find a LR, or wait till who knows when for the MYP we ordered.

So far not impressed with Tesla Customer Service.

Anyone else get left out on getting their car in time?
I did. No Vin, no communication. Ordered 10/23.

I reached out to them 12/30 and got the response of pick an inventory or wait 1-12 weeks. I had already sold my car and was without transportation. Going back to work Jan 4 and needed something. Wife was fine with the LR and I really wanted the MYP but wasn’t sure I could go up to 3 months w/o a car. Got a person on chat feature and looked at surrounding inventory. All the MYPs had either higher mileage or weren’t the right configuration. Found a LR in the color we wanted with 20” inductions, tow, FSD. He matched me to the vin and that was where the fun started.

Ultimately I’m happy with the LR but it’s unfortunate that I didn’t get the car I initially ordered in October. I have a reservation for a Cybertruck tri-motor. We’ll see how that goes.

For those that are curious, here’s the rest of the story after matching to the LR VIN.

Tesla reviewed and finalized financing, I logged in and digitally signed everything. Had a message saying my wife needed to login to her account to sign her co-signer portion. Problem was she didn’t have an account. Figured Tesla created one for her since they emailed her separately. She tried password recovery but website says her email isn’t a recognized account. Ok, so try and create a new account. Website says her email is already associated with an account so she can’t create one.

Now we are in limbo going back and forth. I get on Tesla chat to confirm she needs to login and approve these docs and I explain the account issue since she can’t get in to sign them. Tesla chat assures me everything is set on their end and we are good to go. I confirmed this 3 times with the person on chat. Setup a pickup time and waited for a text.

2 hours later get a text saying they are waiting for her to sign and then our car will be ready. I spend the next hour trying to get a person to help us login to her account. Can’t get a human on the phone and when I finally do they have no clue what’s wrong and transfer me to someone’s voicemail. Starting to get frustrated.

I called back the one person who answered their phone for me and it was the one who scheduled my delivery. I explain my situation and she was totally nice and promised to help us get this figured out. I asked her if we could just wet sign the forms instead. 30 mins later I get a text saying the forms are in the car for wet signatures, car’s ready and come pick it up!

We get to the SC a little over an hour later and nobody there knows what we are talking about. 20mins later associate tells us the car is in back with the paperwork, someone will bring it around shortly. Until then, just hang out. 70 minutes later they tell us the car is here. Yes, 70 minutes of waiting with nothing more of an update than, “I’m trying to find someone to drive the car up”.

We sign the paperwork and get escorted to our car. The guy who escorted us to our car was very nice and super helpful. He is an exterior quality control engineer. He spent 20 mins with me looking over the car. It was great.

This whole experience was less than great. I’m disappointed in the lack of communication to us as customers but also Tesla’s internal communication. It felt like each time we spoke to someone we were starting the process all over.

Of course we really like the car. I just learned a lot of lessons through this process.
In the end we saved some money with the LR, got the free supercharging and the $1,500 CA EV rebate. I just value my time as well as others and I definitely don’t feel it was reciprocated. Sucks to feel that way b/c it’s reminiscent of the days spending 3+ hours at a dealer buying any other manufacturers car. Really was hoping Tesla would be different.
Maybe everything happens for a reason.

Ordered on 10.22., VIN received on 12.24. Picked up my Y on Tuesday 29th in the afternoon and dropped off for full front PPF the next day. Bumper, full hood, lights, mirrors, partial front fenders, small section of rear bumper under the trunk door, center console and 35% tint front windows. The pictures also shows the Tsportline TSV 19" wheels with Conti DSW06 tires.

There is a ton of issues with the car and I have appointment for service on Tuesday. Below are some of the issues.

Interior:
  1. Driver seat black marks (tried to clean without luck)
  2. Driver door handle trim coming apart and window/door switch over sprayed with clear coat (tried to clean/buff out without satisfactory results)
  3. Dash white trim gauges on passenger side
  4. Steering wheel tilted right while driving straight, vehicle veers slightly left if let go of the steering wheel on highway- alignment needed to fix the issue
Exterior:
  1. Passenger windshield pillar deep gauge/scratch missing paint
  2. Front bumper chip/missing paint (will fix myself PPF installed already, could not wait)
  3. Upper part of front and rear door on both sides has clear coat overspray or unfinished coat. Can be felt with bare hand. Absolutely horrible finish.
  4. Rear trunk door misaligned
  5. Passenger door won’t close unless slammed with brute force.
  6. App was showing warning that multiple windows are open after closing multiple times, over and over. Windows would always come down on its own. Had to re-calibrate multiple times each window. Satisfactory result (self fix).
General:
  1. Wheel center cap removal tool not present
  2. Tow hitch cover removal tool not present
  3. Tesla factory Bluetooth sensors not connecting with the vehicle. Driven for 100 miles, lowered pressure and re-inflated, changed wheel size in the settings without positive results.

Got my car yesterday around noon, just in time for the supercharging promo. Surprised at how nearly flawless it was! Very clean. Only thing I noticed was that the driver-side headlight was slightly not flush but not enough to really notice it. Freshly built with all the latest features even though 785xx. Still no adaptive headlights on the Y I guess.

I didn’t get the MYP but the LR AWD and picked it up yesterday. It was the 4th VIN for me. The the 1st and 2nd VINS missed the delivery time frame. The third VIN did not pass inspection, which I would have never known had I not walked I o the SC and spoken to a manager. It was the 4th VIN, which they found at another SC 20 miles away. It was definitely an interesting NYE.

Just got a text stating that I'm eligible for January delivery and to stand by. I thought they’re going to ship everything to Europe for the first couple of months? I requested a late Feb/early March delivery but have been getting delivery updates every month.

I might as well wait a couple more months and see if the MY gets another refresh. Waited this long already...

Got a call Saturday Evening (1/2) that my car is at the SC. Picked it up Sunday afternoon and I gotta say, not one issue found so far. Car looks great. Pouring rain today so hopefully able to get out and really drive it this week. Thank you to everyone here for the advice and venting. Still bent about missing the year of supercharging, but at least I seem to have got a good one! Now lots of learning to do!

I requested Feb/March delivery too, but am going to ask my service rep to delay it until the heating steering wheel arrives. I’m so excited to get a new car, but I’d be so mad if I missed the heated wheel, especially since it’s available in China now.

New to Tesla. Owned BMWs since 1999. Currently in 2015 X5 x35i, all options.
2015ish - drove my family member's Model S 85D, the instant acceleration ruined all other cars for me from that point on, stopped following BMW news pretty much then
2015-2020 - lurking and watching my family getting their 3rd Tesla, hesitant to pull the trigger due to lack of service dept in my area
12/19/20 - drove M3 LR and MYP - we were giggling like school kids the whole test drive
12/21/20 - ordered MYP, red/white, no FSD - chose MYP over M3P due to kids and trunk needs
Already going up and down on Tesla promises. Delivery was supposed to be by 12/31, now until March 16. I'm in South East, picking up from JAX, FL. I'm learning here that basically I'll be lucky if I get the car by end of 1Q21 lol...
But, super excited to get my MYP with all the issues that it comes with from a startup Tesla.

I am not aware of Tesla giving out these tools. Where do they state that they do provide these? Tow hitch cover removal tool would be awesome.
They don't state this anywhere. My 2019 Model 3 Perf didn't come with it either but all my other cars in the past had that. I guess Tesla figures you don't have a spare to replace so why bother providing it. I have and had other vehicles with tow but those were easy to use and get to. This has flimsy plastic cover that makes the car look good hiding the tow hitch but pain to remove.
