If you are waiting for MODEL S or Model X

Although Model S and Model X are made in the same US factory as the Model 3 their delivery journey to you is markedly different.
Both Model S and X are shipped partly assembled in containers (3 to a container).
They are moved by road from Fremont to the Oakland Joint Intermodal Terminal where they are loaded on to a train.
The train then takes about 9 or more bone-rattling days to travel to Houston. (actually BNSF Pearland).

The containers are then moved by road to the dock at Barbers Cut (webcams) where they are then loaded on to a scheduled container ship that eventually arrives 15 days later in Rotterdam (Note: Although the ships have a scheduled stop in Antwerp your containers are unloaded in Rotterdam).

The current shipping schedules show:
Dep Houston Arr Rotterdam

MAERSK IDAHO 24/1 - 8/2

MAERSK OHIO 31/1 - 15/2

SAFMARINE MAFADI 7/2 - 22/2

MAERSK MONTANA 14/2 - 1/3

From Rotterdam the containers are moved by road (or barge) to Tilburg in Holland. Your car is removed from the container and then joins a mini production line where it is reassembled. It is then moved to Zeebrugge and shipped to Southampton.

As can be seen, all this takes time.

Finding your car in this complex logistics chain is difficult but there is a man who can. @Vedaprime is the specialist in this area. You can find him here but he normally resides on Twitter.

The San Francisco port schedule has been published!
It confirms that GLOVIS CAPTAIN and RCC AMSTERDAM will be the 1st two ships and also shows the GLOVIS COMPANION on there too. (grins smugly)
The surprise entries are HORIZON LEADER and SEBRING EXPRESS. I would never have guessed on these 2 ships being chartered by Tesla and explains why I couldn't find them - that's my excuse anyway!
The odds are that one, or maybe both, of these two ships will be coming to Europe however, a brief flick through the likely European port schedules has turned up nothing.

Hi,
I ordered a Tesla Model 3 SR+ om 4. of November -2020 here in Oslo, Norway. My Tesla adviser said it would arrive late February. Any idea if it would be produced in Shanghai or Freemont?
Thank you very much for all your work.

Glovis Captain has just arrived at Pier 80!
Yes as forecasted on this thread, GLOVIS CAPTAIN has arrived alongside Pier 80 24 hours early.
I'm not entirely confident that she will depart early though since not all the cars have been delivered to the pier yet.
For the moment I'm sticking to an ETA of 7 Feb for Zeebrugge and 9 Feb for Southampton.

A little background on the GLOVIS CAPTAIN

She is no stranger to Pier 80, this will be her sixth visit since Jan 19 and her fourth voyage transporting Teslas to Zeebrugge, making her Tesla's favourite ship. She holds the distinction of delivering the first Model 3s to Europe 2 years ago.

She had a drama in the English Channel in November 2019 during some bad weather on a voyage from Antwerp to China (Clearly not chartered by Tesla at the time) . Excessive rolling resulted in several lashings giving way leading to several trucks and Porsche cars breaking loose and consequently damaging a bulkhead of the ship. The ship managed to divert into Southampton where the wrecked vehicles were unceremoniously removed by forklift. The ship was required to remain in port until the bulkead was properly repaired 3 days later.

As a matter of routine all vehicles will be lashed to the deck as soon as they are loaded. Additionally, cars will be parked as close together as possible so that should a lashing break there will be minimal movement of the loose car and any damage will hopefully be confined to it and immedaiately surrounding vehicles only. Clearly the integrity of the lashings is vital to the safety of the ship and throughout the voyage regular checks will be made on every lashing. Every vehicle will have its handbrake or parking brake applied and vehicles with manual gearboxes will be left in low gear.

Hi, thanks a lot for all this info!

It will be coming from Shanghai - I would expect it to arrive at the very end of February.
I have ordered a SR+ in Germany and I'm active in the TFF forum, there.
Do you think they will ship the SR+ for Germany from Shanghai as well?
The (very unreliable) sales reps told us that in Q1 the SR+ for Germany would come from Freemont with the NMC battery, again.
We wouldn't mind China, quality seems to be a lot better, but the BMS of the LFP battery does not work as it should, at the moment.
The range they give on the German Website for Q1 SR+ orders is slightly below the LFP range they gave before, but it says "estimate".

This ship tracking is great, but it would be a shame to track the wrong ship and get all exceited for nothing.
;-)

Even though i think it’s off topic, my personal guess is that SR+ continue to be from Shanghai. And mr miserable’s thoughts regarding Toronto is backing this up.

Im from DK and waiting for my own SR+ feb/mar. But I don’t think Tesla would have let LFP batteries in the EU if it wasn’t meant to continue.

Mr Miserable is holding up my hopes, but I don’t think anyone will know before the vin gets assigned. I a couple of days when vins from Glovis Captain gets assigned we’ll get a hint. If SR+ is from Fremont they used to be the first one in transit. But this should probably be discussed in the Deliveries 2021 thread

I was aware that some charging issues had been identified with the MIC SR+ but I put them down to cold weather, I didn't realise that the issue is more serious. If a decision has been made not to ship anymore SR+ from China until the issue is addressed then that is quite a revelation. Is the domestic Chinese market still being supplied? I will see if any of my sources can confirm this.
I have yet to identify an EU bound shipment from Shanghai yet but to be honest I wasn't expecting it until nearer the end of the month.
Anyway, watch this space.....

All LHD EU model 3’s will be made in China. Not sure about the RHD. Also, later this month a software update will be released to fix the BMS issues and slow SuC speed of the MiCs.

i have ordered a SR+ last October. I hope they fix BMS problem before my delivery if it comes from China. If not then i will cancel it, i see everyday lot of complains about LFP battery and slow charging problems, it is not acceptable for almost 50k€ car.

GLOVIS CAPTAIN continues to load at Pier 80.
What would be interesting to learn is what exactly is the ship being loaded with. The rumours are no Performance models for the UK and possibly some SR+ for the EU - it would be good to know for sure.
There would appear to be no desperate rush for the ship to depart and it looks like she will be alongside until Friday at least.
We shall see....

man I right in thinking that the chrome extension VIN finder might become usable if your order he made it on the ship a couple of days after it departs!? Is that how it works?
