Please consider buying a ticket for the 6th annual Tesla Raffle - please pass it on! https://carbonraffle.org/
This has consistently been the best Tesla raffle as you get the car AND the cash to pay the taxes.

Climate XChange is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. Our mission is to achieve a durable, just transition away from polluting fossil fuels in the United States by advancing climate policy at the state level.

Thanks, Ed.

Climate XChange is now advertising our Tesla Raffle fundraiser on TMC. The drawing will be four weeks from today, Friday February 25, live streamed on Facebook from 3pm Eastern (we stream yours truly loading the ticket stubs in the drum from 2pm). Sales end two days earlier at 2pm Eastern on February 23, or when we sell out all 5000 tickets available. We have a little over 1000 tickets left, so get yours soon!

The funds raised in this raffle go to our state climate policy work. See how your state's climate policies compare on our State Climate Policy Dashboard. Learn more about our mission and impact at Mission & Impact - Climate-XChange.

Thanks,
Peter Kirby - Board Member and Raffle Director

Some fun math from the Stand-Up Maths channel on the calculation required to determine how much extra money needs to be given in a giveaway to not have the person need to pay out of pocket for taxes on a free car.

Edit: "Unlike a Tesla, there is no long range version of this formula" :)

So....was looking over the legal details on the raffle. The winner HAS to take delivery by 6/30/2022 in order to qualify. Considering that deadline, it leaves only the Model 3 LR, Model 3 Performance, & Model Y Performance, or Model S Plaid as an option. That is too bad, as I would have wanted the Model X LR.

HI @matt1981m ,
When we set the legal details for this raffle, we updated that delivery date to June 30 in hopes of having it land within our new fiscal year end (we changed from calendar years in 2021). Last year's winner was supposed to receive his Model S in May or June, then August, then briefly this month (February 2022!), then finally arrived September 29. We thought Tesla would have worked through supply issues by this year so set the date. But like last year, if the car has been ordered, we know the price and can calculate the tax so just entered an expense accrual transaction to close our books.

TL-DR - don't worry about that June 30 date, we will work with the winner to order within March 2022 and will manage to whatever date Tesla is able to deliver the car.

@swaltner, thanks for sharing that video. We actually do more - and pay more - than that, however. Because the raffle is held in Massachusetts, Massachusetts also charges state income tax on the car. So we pay that tax, which then increases the federal tax, which then increases the state tax, etc. I have a spreadsheet that runs through the calculation multiple times until it converges. We are now able to just apply that percentage (a little over 42%) to the prize (MSRP plus fees, sales tax and registration fee) to get to the number - but I still plug the numbers into that spreadsheet to be sure!

89 tickets left!
