2023 Model Y Unacceptable Build Quality and Issues

Picked up my Y today and quality was very good. All gaps were even, panels lined up evenly with each other, interior is well put together, glass was fine, etc. The only possible issue I noticed are the bumpers are slightly different in color compared to the body (white color) att certain angles. I know this is fairly common, especially on an overcast day. Comparing it to my white Lexus LX470, same issue is seen today (also Pearl in color). My white 4Runner is even though but that is a non Pearl paint. I’m very happy to not have had to reject this Y.

UPDATE: After escalating to the service manager and then the site manager they adjusted both the driver side doors. It's not perfect but it's much better. No wind/water leaks. Passenger side windows are perfectly flush with B pillar. Drive side windows are off slightly, but now only noticeable upon close inspection.

They adjusted the liftgate rubber stops. No improvement in low frequency booming/drumming noise. I attempted adjusting the stops (several times) per the video. No improvement. I installed the 3/8 inch vinyl tubing in the liftgate seal. Reduced the noise to a tolerable level. But lifgate gaps were significant and it would not close normally (had to be pushed down). Replaced the 3/8 inch tubing with 5/16 inch tubing. Acceptable gaps and liftgate now closes normally, but noise returned. FINAL SOLUTION: replaced the 5/16 inch tubing in the lower sections (below the tail lights) of the seals with 3/8 inch tubing. left the 5/16 inch tubing in the upper sections. Noise is at a tollerable level, gaps are good, liftgate closes normally. In fact the botton edge of the lifgate now lines up even better with the rear bumper cover. Installing the vinyl tubing turned out to be quite simple, about a 30 minute task. Easy to remove and try different combinations.

Also lowered the tire pressure from 42 to 38. Again some improvement in noise level.

Plan to install Dynamat in rear area, rear wheel wells, and rear quarter panel next.

My impression of the Model Y after 4 weeks:
1) Build quality is still a problem.
2) Response from the Service Center is very disappointing.
3) Low frequency noise, while only noticeable to people with high sensitivity hearing, is a design problem that should have been fixed in the first year of production. Having to do DIY fixes on a new vehicle is unacceptable.
4) Positive features of the vehicle:
Long range: First two week were between 0 and 10 degrees and range was still around 240 miles.
Acceleration: No new news here, its very quick.
Space: Rear seat area and rear trunk area are very large.
Price: After federal and Colorado tax credits, the vehicle only cost $46K. (It certainly wouldn't have been worth the $68K price from last fall).
5) Negative features of the vehicle:
Road/tire noise: Louder than my Pacifica plug in hybrid and much louder than my MB GLK 350.
Wind noise at high speed ( I haven't tried any of the after market fixes yet).
No Blind Spot Alert, No Parking Distance Alert, No Cross Traffic Alert, No Birds Eye View, No Driver Display (HUD), No Apple Car Play.
Small steering wheel, poor turning radius, steering ratio to low.
Excessive use of touch screen, climate control would be better served with actual buttons.
Rain sensitive wipers are erratic. Windshield washer spray seems to only work in very short burst.
No shade/cover for the glass roof. Sun is very intense in Colorado due to high altitude. Clip in accessory is impractical.
OVERALL: In spite of the many deficits listed above, For $46K the Model Y is still a very good EV. However, at a higher price, I would choose something different.

Surprised at 240 range under 10 degrees. Is this in town / low speed travel? I'm at 175-200 when under freezing at highway speeds.

Update from my side…put in a service request on 2 items yesterday. First the steering is way too sensitive, looks like an issue with toe so will see what the alignment specs are. Second is for the bumper color difference. Already got a message response that the color difference is due to different materials so that’s that. Still getting used to having to do everything via touch screen but the single pedal driving is pretty cool.

Back and forth to work. Half side streets half expressway. Car is kept in an attached, insulated garage (about 40 degrees) and was conditioned every morning prior to driving. Parking at work was in a covered garage at a lower level that was probably between 30-40 degrees.

Hello All!
I want to share my experience with the delivery of my Model Y yesterday (1/25/2023) a Burbank CA.
The car was parked outside and the agent asked me to look around, I started seeing cosmetics issues, Paint bleeding, Scratches, Misalignment, wiring harness and others. The agent mentioned that since we are at a service center, all (or most) this can be fixed immediately. After I took delivery, and was ready to leave, he pointed me to the direction of the service center and asked to turn left at the end of the road. When I reached the entrance I was stopped and was told that I was given the wrong info and I will have to create a ticket and submitted it and a schedule a service date. I went back in and the delivery agent now tells me that he told me that they will address my concerns but it depends on them when. I made some noise and they send a service specialist to help me create the service request, take photos etc. She did help me to get an appointment for 2/4/2023 and was told that I will get a loaner with unlimited miles and free supercharging. I left and as i got of the freeway, I could feel the steering vibrating at speeds above 60. It is pretty pronounced and I can feel it through the seat and my hands and neck start to hurt because of the constant shaking. I got home and added another this item to the service ticket and it now moved my date to 2/11/2023.
I called in to get a closer date but the agent I spoke to couldn't care less and told me it should be OK to drive the car with the vibrations. I repeated what he had said to me and he confirmed his previous statement. I asked to talk to manager or someone who could help me, but he would not give me an email address or phone number and said he will put in a request for a manger to call me back.

I have attached some photos.

Thanks
I just threw up in my mouth a little 🤢 Hope you’re able to get this resolved without much more hassle. Really piss poor QAQC on Tesla’s part.

Agree on most negatives, except climate controls. Tesla has remarkable voice recognition and I use it excessively. My wife says that it is noisy too, I don't really notice it that much (could be that I need a hearing aid:)

How did you arrive to 46K after incentives? 58.2K (54.4K cost + 3.8K sales tax) out of pocket cost (the cheapest) - 9.5K incentives (7.5K(Fed)+2K(CO)) yields 48.7K. Unless you bought with options and didn't count the tax. I hope that Polis will be able to raise CO EV incentives to 5K for 2023:)

Would you accept this? Wooden panels are off...it would need a completely new door and requires a service appointment and the part to be sourced. Still thinking of whether to accept this delivery or not. I do not want to lose $3,750 tax credit...

I didn't count the sales tax

I did, I think they are mostly like that. I haven't seen one that actually matched up. This didn't even make my concern list.

Still thinking of whether to accept this delivery or not. I do not want to lose $3,750 tax credit...Tthat may be a misalignment of the dash panel. I don't thin there is suppose to be that much of the "slot" showing above the trim piece.
That may be a misalignment of the dash trim piece.

Thank you for your help. After almost rejecting the car (I actually went home without picking it up), SA texted me that "it would need a completely new door and requires a service appointment and the part to be sourced. Still thinking of whether to accept this delivery or not." He texted that Tesla will fix this. Not sure whether taking the door out and put new door would be too much hassle..
