$2500 Deposit on the Y and still no VIN

I put down a deposit in June of 2019, I changed to AWD (at the advice of a Telsa advisor) to "get it sooner", I've been in "drafting contract" status since March, and I still don't have a VIN. The delivery advisor has stopped responding and the sales rep can't provide me any information. Anyone else in this position? I'm so disappointed and beyond frustrated.

How can they now promise that new orders will be delivered in 4 to 8 weeks and I'm still in limbo (a year later)????

I ordered 3/2019 ($2500 deposit). White/white, AWD, 19” FSD.
my delivery specialist hasn’t reponded to my email. I also do not have a VIN or contract.

I was in that position, except I ordered on the night of the reveal. Initially, it was an RWD white/black, but I later changed it to AWD white/white. By the end of May, I was so sick of hearing about people who got their cars a week after ordering, that I cancelled my reservation. The next day, I put in a new reservation for the same car. This was after I called Tesla to check my order to make sure there was nothing wrong with it. They said it was fine and told me 8-12 weeks, which was double what the website said for brand new orders.

Immediately, the order started moving. I was issued an "Order Agreement", which I never got in the 15 months of the first order. Now, I've gotten two texts that say I'll get the car by the end of this month.

I don't know if I'm further ahead than I would have been if I stuck with the first reservation but I know I'm no worse off. Obviously, I can't say what you should do. In case you're wondering, Tesla did refund the $2500 almost immediately.

Sorry to hear about your situation. I placed my order on the night it was announced with $2,500 deposit for Performance & FSD. Around December, I changed the color. And, I received my car back in March 30.

I wonder if location has anything to do with your delivery? I'm in Los Angeles, so it's probably easier/simpler for Tesla to deliver cars here? In last week or so, I'm seeing quite a few more Model Y around the town.

Similar experience a few years back when I placed my order for the Model 3. I eventually received a refund via check a few weeks after I submitted my request. A couple of months later I placed a new order and received a Model 3 within a few weeks.

The pandemic kicked in right as the Model Y production was ramping up, which really messed things up for all of us, so do take that into account. No harm re-ordering (you'll be out only $100 more) and keep both reservations open until 1 of them receives a VIN.

It’s not an option, it was a requirement. It no longer is. Paying the USD 2,500 has no effect on when you get your car or not. Nor does how expensive the build is, any longer. It comes down to batches of like builds and transportation of them regionally. Sorry that it’s not first in, first out. But Tesla never said it would be. They are a business trying to maximize profits, not user satisfaction or happiness with the process. If they get some of that, all to the good. But ultimately it’s about efficiency and profit.

September 2019 order, USD 2,500 deposit, first batch delivery ( in Texas ). Not special, just lucky as we didn’t expect for another year and our car is awesome inside and out.

Hang in there and don’t believe (the negative) hype.

The majority of the Model Y’s are being allocated to CA deliveries right now it seems. It seems like Tesla needed to boost the delivery numbers for the end of the quarter. I had two reservations. One LR AWD (white on black) from Feb. 2020 and one Performance (white on black) from May 2020. Turned down the LR AWD delivery in early June and took delivery of Performance on 6/13. Let’s hope the delay in your order getting fulfilled reflects in better build quality off the line.
