265/40/19 vs 265/35/19

Hello,

Hoping for some help here.

Is 265/40/19 possible on 9.5inch wide rims? Why does everyone recommend 265/35/19 instead on 9.5 inch wide rims?

I know stock is 235/40/19 on 8.5 inch wide rims.

So wouldn't 265/40/19 be closer in diameter to stock vs 265/35/19?

Looking to run a square set up.

Here is 275/35/19 on 19x9.5 ET40 with a 5mm Spacer (Performance Rotors).

And, here is 275/40/18 on 18x8.5 ET35 with AP Rotors, no Spacer.

245/35R21 on a 9” front without modification.
Got a proof for that? It's ~5% taller than stock. I call BS. Sounds like Model S fitment. It could be doable with some stupid offset like +20.

I had a half-worn set of 235/50/18 winter tires from a prior car and it cleared the upper knuckle joint by less than 1mm. A new tire would've have rubbed. That size has identical radius to 265/40/19.

Not proof, but evidence:

Vorsteiner V-FF 109 wheels for Tesla Model 3 in 21" are a flow forged wheel designed with strength and elegance in mind while maintaining a very lightweight structure. These wheels bring luxury to your Tesla Model 3 and Tesla Model 3 Performance.

The 109 is our rendition of a modern day 10 spoke design. Featuring spoke cuts to reduce weight and add a subtle detail to the design. In addition the spokes are designed to run from the outer lip all the way to the center of the bowl giving the illusions of a larger overall diameter.

Available in Carbon Graphite

Front wheel is 21x9 with 38 offset and uses 245/35-21 tire

Rear wheel is 21x10.5 with 45 offset and uses 265/30-21 tire

  • These wheels are direct fit and require no adapters or spacers
Available mounted and balanced with new TPMS with 245/35-21 Front and 265/35-21 Rear Tires

Not proof, but evidence:
If a shop that sell you wheels+tires guarantees fitment, go for it. It's their money on the line. Even the same brand/model tire has acceptable variance of widths/radii, so a picture of 275/35/19 fitment up above is likely to be hit-n-miss depending on luck, but if someone else is paying for replacement tires - why not.

It's probably possible to go for narrower AND taller tire. The chances that 265-wide tire 4% taller than stock would fit aren't good.

Not on the OEM wheel without a spacer. With the correct width and offset wheel, you can fit a lot. If you’re looking for guarantees and Costco to do it, well then You are correct, no.
Because of how tight the fender can be on the outside edge moar spacer isn't always a sure answer, either. Unless you're ready to roll your fender lips, too. ;)

I've not put them on myself but I understand the verdict here on Bridgestone RE71 275/35R18 is that they just fit with no rub and really only because of a luck of how the shoulder shape of the design works with the vehicle. Between that knuckle drooped over the inside corner and the fender lip on the outside there isn't a lot of room in the wheel well, and it gets worse really fast as you go taller than stock because of how the knuckle is a rounded corner rather than squared.
