40 amp extension for charging?

Just put this into a Google search, and it will show you the dozens of threads that are already here on this forum about it:

And here is why you are hearing 50A. There isn't any 40A outlet type, so any kind of big beefy extension will be for either a 14-50 or 6-50 kind of outlet, so they just don't make "40A" extensions.

*sigh* For some clarification:
Your circuit breaker should be a 50 amp.
It's actually allowed to be either 40A or 50A, depending on what is to be plugged into it. With the 2nd generation UMC, it is a maximum 32A draw, so the 40A circuit would be appropriate and code compliant. On the older 1st generation UMC, it was 40A max, so it did need the 50A breaker.

Car will only pull 30 from 14.50
Regarding the UMCs, I mentioned either the 40A or 32A for the older or newer versions. And with the onboard chargers in the car, that depends on what model of car you have. Since this is a Model S section, probably 40A or 48A max.
