If 4680 is soooo better than 2170 , I wonder why they don't start producing it @ Nevada right away. New factories are agile to accept such change .
I think 4680 is a year or two away from production scale.

From what I understand there really is no reason to wait unless you don't need a car anytime soon.

First there is no guarantee the Y with the 4860s will have more range since there is every chance they will simply use fewer cells in order to maintain the same range and yet make more margin on each car sold.

Also as we just saw with the removal of the passenger lumbar combined with the price increases might mean you pay more for less in the future.

Probably, since the GigaPress will be used to build the Model Y but when will the Model 3 be available with this battery? Doesn't seem likely that the assembly lines would change to the old battery....Unless availability forces them to.

As per Forbes (2 day old article), we are still a good 12 months away from mass production (i.e. late 2022).
