A friend of mine just placed an order for a MYLR this past weekend, with an EDD of June. He said that he’s already received an email asking for $5000 down, as well as finalization of details for his trade. Has anyone else seen this, this early?

No, doesn’t sound right. For trade in, they give a quote that expires in 30 days. Then have to re-upload odometer screenshot again. Never heard of them taking a down payment, other than the $250 to hold the order.
Sounds like your friend is being phished. Proceed with caution, have them contact Tesla customer support directly by phone. Do not use any phone numbers from any emails. Go to the Tesla website and get the number from there to call.

They ask for payment when delivery is close and your vin is ready. He may have gotten lucky like some here and wait time was significantly reduced. lot of buyers are putting delivery on hold for things like waiting for the EV bill to pass or just simply not ready. So it goes to the next person up in that area with the same Config. He won the teslas lottery. If he’s not ready he’ll defer it and ask for a hold and some other lucky winner will get the same payment request. You should see this request when you log into your Tesla account of course.

Your typically notified by text or your actual Tesla account. Phi’s is possible but unlikely since it shows in your app/account

Have him reply and check the email address that it came from. My guess is, it is not tesla.com
