60 kWh Model Production Delayed

Ahhhhh, the old "when I was a resident excuse..."

Unless you're a fellow, drop some of that attending coin on the repairs. ;)

No longer a resident, but there is no extra attending coin to be had due to the cost of a home in my area. Where I live I am the poor white trash on the block.

No pity party called for, but there isnt much extra cash around here unless Google decides they need to pay a physician for something or other and approach me. This is quite unlikely since my neighbor works there and doesn't like me too much...

But I appreciate the sentiment. At the time that Kia was a major splurge. Times have changed a bit, but I will never enjoy wasting money...

Cheers

What about the folks like me that, upon original reservation, had the 60kWh pack but later modified their reservation to the 85kWh pack? Do Tesla still see you as the 60 or did it recognize the change to 85 or does any of it even matter before "time to build" comes?

Hi,
I'm P39 on the list.

I don't know if when one signs the purchase contract affects when one gets the car.

I was told that my car has been pushed out to the Dec/Jan window. Bummer.

Can't wait to get rid of my Leaf and drive a real electric vehicle.

So I just got off the phone with ownership experience and they told me that the email is correct in that the 60 kWh batteries aren't entering production until December, but felt that it would be early December. Since my production # is pretty low, particularly for a 60 kWh battery reservation holder (I guess most early Tesla supporters are richer than I am), they felt it was possible that my car may actually be delivered before the end of the year or very early January.

Apparently most 60 kWh reservation holders have later production sequence #s and as a result a good number will be beginning to be delivered in that Jan/Feb timeframe that my email mentioned, but the Ownership Experience team basically said my email was hedging bets in that they would rather estimate things Disney style (from this point your wait will be 40 minutes... meaning 10 minutes, so you are happier with the outcome).

I will keep you all posted if anything changes. Would love to see if there are any 60 kWh battery reservation holders with lower production sequence #s than mine as they may be a better source of info when it comes down to actual delivery data.

Living in California close to Fremont also helps me a bit in terms of a delivery date. But if I turn out to be the lowest 60kWh battery on the forum then I will try and keep the rest of you posted as things develop as I am sure the rest of you are as anxious as I am to get your hands on the steering wheel of your new car. I for one am anxious to start driving on sunlight instead of earth-poisoning oil packaged in blood-spattered barrels.

Cheers.

I hear you on all accounts.

I was in for the 60kWh version for (probably) similar reasons.

With the cost of supercharging and the real world range, I decided to go with the 85kWh version.

It seems like a big jump at first, but if you sit with it, it may make sense to you. I'm not suggesting you haven't thought this one through by any means, but if the cost of repair can be offset by the upgrade cost (if that's even possible now), it might make sense.

Also, something I frequently forget: I have already paid $5k for the car.

Keep that attitude, and you will do quite well as an attending. Especially given the horizon as I see it.

Ooops! as an example of self-moderating...here is me pulling us back on topic!

I foresee the 60 kWh being produced late December, and we'll have a demo model to prove it exists!

so sayeth the spattercarnac!!

Anyone else on the 2012+60kWh bubble going through this thought process now?!

Amazing to find this thread. Stay tuned:
P1079. 60KWh battery.
Have always been on verge of 85. Even asked for new MVPA few months ago - then backed off.
Awoke today and realized I really can not reliably round-trip from our summer place to work without recharging mid day in a 60kWh Model S.
I am no longer a medical resident, or fellow. Been there and done it though - enjoyed that flogging.
I am upgrading from a 190,000-plus mile Volvo wagon that, 9 years ago, cost me $9K.
I am upgrading to a 85kWh air suspension pano sound leather paint armor tech package Model S.
It is costing me more than $9K.
P37, clealy it is the 60kWh that leaves you as a jan/feb delivery, else you'd be weeks away.
Ggwantsatesla the wait seems long but it really is only a few months, and seems to me your financial concerns are real.
But to be clear, when I upgraded, I had no idea the 60's were delayed. Would have sealed the deal but glad I had the oomph to do it without knowing.
So, this means the next P 60kWh gets her/his car a little earlier - or does it?
Whatever the battery, it won't be too long for us all...

I read MichaelS question about the signed purchase contract affecting delivery date to imply a deferral occurred and the 60kWh battery choice was not the only reason for the Jan/Feb delivery date but also the "late" contract signing. Need to here from MichaelS to clarify.

I think your Dad's expecting you to get the "Performance" model now.....

TMC: Nigel picked my Dad up today - they've never met - and put a huge Tesla Grin on his face, taking him for a ride to Longboat Key. This is why we are buying a Tesla - nothing like this community. And, Nigel, if I upgrade my car any further, I'll need to downgrade my family. You are unbelievable. Thanks tons.

Just sold off our 2008 Kia Cee'd. I am P1418 Europe, but figured the Kia would take to long to sell to wait untill delivery.. Now it seems we need to get another really cheap 2nd car and swap the Saab for the Tesla. Saab was supposed to be car #2, but as car #2 now might be an iQ, this will get interesting. :) still 10-12 months for Delivery, so time will show.

I getting the 60kwh pack. I just hope real World tests shows its qualities. :)

Hi there. New to these forums and happened upon them out of frustration (today) with Tesla. Glad I am not the only one surprised by the 60kWh delay. My estimated delivery range was Nov/Dec (P#1,339) when I signed the MVPA, and so I emailed the address on my MVPA confirmation email late last week to see if they had a more precise estimate. Here's the email I received back.

Hello Scott,

Thank you for contacting Tesla.

We have recently revised delivery estimates and production for Model S this year and given your configuration, we current are estimating delivery of your Model S toward January to February. This shift is mainly due to the staggered introduction of the 60kWh battery pack. Once the 60kWh Model S goes into production, we will be better able to estimate delivery and will be able to give you a more accurate delivery time then. About 30 days before we expect delivery, you will be contacted by your Delivery Experience specialist who will start coordinating the delivery of your Model S.

In any case, we appreciate your patience throughout the reservation process. We are working flat-out to build and deliver Model S to customers as quickly as possible while ensuring that everyone is receiving a quality product.

Thanks,

So DiscoDucky, seems pretty safe to say you aren't getting your car this year (nor other folks later than P#1,339).

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

I am hoping that most of the early reservation numbers want the performance or 85 kWh model so that some of us 60 kWh get in sooner than February (P3446). Also, I wonder what the DS meant by "staggered introduction". Also maybe he could not be more specific prior to the 3rd quarter call. Just trying to be optimistic.

As the letter indicates, part of your delay is due to ordering the 60 kWh battery. It's likely that some with later P numbers will receive their car earlier if they've ordered the 85 kWh pack.

Staggered introduction = 60 kWh pack not starting on the production line at the same time as the 85 kWh pack.
