75D - Wall Connector - 90A Question

Good Afternoon!

I have a Model X 75D being delivered on Wednesday. I had the wall connector professionally installed in my garage last week with a 90a circuit. Originally I thought the car could use the 90a circuit to get the most miles per hour (using 72a) but after reading further it looks like the 75D can only utilize 48a. With that being said I am confused as to what I should set the internal wall connector toggle switch to. Should it be to 90a since that is the circuit or lower (48a) since that is all the car can take? Will the car just utilize what it can? I do not want to damage it.

Leave the wall connector set to 72A - the car will only use 48A. By leaving it at 72A, you're Tesla 100D friends will be able to charge at 72A, as will you if/when you eventually upgrade to a 100.

Correct - the car will only draw what it's capable of drawing.

Remember that voltage is pressure. Amps is volume so it’s a maximum, not a minimum.

Can you still do this in the 2018 models? I thought the upgrade to charging rate ended in 2017?

The 72A upgrade is no longer available for X75D

Don't know the answer to that, unfortunately. I have a 2016 X P100D with the 48A charger, so I can upgrade. It's possible that Tesla uses a different harness or something now for the smaller charger, you'd have to check with the SC.

Technically the option doesn’t exist. There have been mention of some SC’s doing it for you if they could get the 72Amp charger, etc. but as a normal thing, the charger the car comes with is it now.
