8.1 seems imminent...

I know, Tesla time, but Elon tweeted tonight:

Resolving an Autopilot HW2 bug that shows up when booting from a subzero cold-soak. If that fix works, software will start uploading tmrw.​

Add a few days for another few last minute bugs to show up, I'm hoping that we AP HW2 folks will be being driven around (so to speak) in a week or two!

Yes, my reading of those tweets was that 8.1 for AP2 HW was coming soon, but 8.1 for AP1 HW is a month off.

I could be wrong but like aesculus mentioned, the update for AP2 is coming soon that brings AP2 cars closer to AP1, which has nothing to do with 8.1. Everyone gets 8.1 next month (if released).

See, given the context of the tweet he's replying to, which is asking "What about 8.1 for HW1?", it seems to me to be clear (unless he misspoke) that he's differentiating AP1 HW and AP2 HW, which suggests that 8.1 is what drops tomorrow for AP2 HW.

He did mention in the past that HW1 cars were now resource constrained -- thus putting a software update with new functionality out to HW1 cars would likely require a lot of extra optimizations.

His tweets were not entirely clear -- it seems like either scenario is possible...

Ok, I still don't know what the relationship between 8.1 and EAP is, but it looks like a few HW2 owners are getting their long-awaited autopilot tonight!

HW2 Autopilot software uploading to 1000 cars this eve. Will then hold to verify no field issues and upload to rest of fleet next week.

What a lottery!

Thanks FlatSix, that's super helpful. I had suspected that they were driving hard to get the safety features going asap -- for obvious reasons -- and that everything else that might come with them were icing on the cake.

I gues this answers that Autopilot on HW2 is not linked to 8.1 as my now misleading title implies.

Faster, rewritten browser. From what I recall, some parts of the core (kernel) are getting a major update. Completely configurable Min/Max car temps. AP upgrades.

Major overhaul to navigation in general, 'camping mode' settings for cabin max and min temperatures while the car is otherwise off, mobile app refresh.

I read in another thread Elon said end of January now.
