800MWh; 200MW flow battery

Interesting. I've been wondering what ever happened to vanadium redox flow batteries since I first read about the technology years ago. I sure hope these initial deployments prove to be very successful. Weight, size and energy density don't matter much for grid storage applications — cost and cycle life would seem to be the most important criteria — so I never quite understood the use of Li-ion for this application.

Pretty neat... ~$400/kWh but ~14k cycle-life.

Further reason why I'm not at all bothered by the intermittency of solar and wind... as storage becomes necessary we'll build it. Nuclear is done.

Batteries wouldn't just affect nuclear, they would also affect coal. It could go in either direction: China has underutilized coal and curtailed renewable energy.
