I just looked at the owners manual in my Tesla ,ive ordered the 90d but just confirmed no vin yet. Anyway in the manual it shows active spoiler and has this statement

The Model X has a rear spoiler designed to improve aerodynamics. The position of the spoiler can vary depending on the status and speed of Model X: • When Model X is in Reverse or when driving speed is below 10 mph (16 km/h), the spoiler provides maximum visibility behind Model X. • When driving speed exceeds 45 mph (72 km/h), the spoiler lowers to the position that provides the most effective aerodynamics. • When Model X is powered off and locked, the spoiler retracts. To allow the spoiler to automatically move as described above, touch Controls > Settings > Service & Reset > Spoiler > Automatic. To disable automatic movement of the spoiler, which keeps it in its extended position, choose the Extended setting. Note: If the spoiler can not automatically lower or raise, the instrument panel displays an alert.
Thanks. Do you believe the manual is model variant specific? I have my doubts and think that the manual makes no differentiation between variants and packages. I may be wrong.. would be good to have this question clarified in a broad sense. In other words, does the manual ever make conditional statements such as "if your model X is equipped with premium package.... self presenting doors.."

Yeah, that I don't know In some areas in the book it referenced the p90d or the 90d but I didn't see it in this section which makes me believe that the active spoiler is on both. Also according to the manual there is a way to set the spoiler to fixed so maybe the person that saw i and thought it was fixed, it may have been just set that way. Just a thought I guess we wont know until we actually pick ours up.

To clarify, I was the one who saw the fixed spoiler and posted a picture (pic was for the color of the X, not really taken for the spoiler, hence not a good angle). I did discuss the fixed spoiler in detail with the DS and checked it out including the way they have made it different from the active ones. It's almost like a solid weld with no grooves (refer to my post upthread).

A acquaintance I know in L.A. just picked up their 90D... and it also has the delayed fixed spoiler as originally intended. As such, there is no spoiler setting in the UI. (I asked them to check that as a hard confirmation.)

So, as time goes on... expect more and more non-P deliveries to not get the free gift.

I bet that car was just not locked, so the spoiler was in the up position. The spoiler doesn't fully retract unless the car is parked and locked. I accidentally switched my X to turn off the walk away lock and didnt lock the car. When I came back to it, the spoiler was still up. If I have walk away lock turned on. Then it usually retracts within 15 seconds of walking away.

I just picked up my 90D tonight. The spoiler is fixed. It doesn't retract when the car is off, and it doesn't adjust the angle at high speeds. I was expecting the fixed spoiler to be more horizontal (like the marketing photos), but it is angled down quite a bit. Interestingly enough, there's a setting for the spoiler in the software. It has automatic or extended. I tried both of those settings and it doesn't seem to have any effect on the spoiler.

@BrettH that is strange. The height looks too low and you have controls in the software doesn't make sense. I would call your SC tomorrow and have them look at your spoiler. If it's fixed it looks too low and if it's active (controls in software) it's not working. Also it has slots to recess and according to @ssq the fixed one they saw didn't have slots to recess.

Now I am confused what I saw, firstly I dont think I saw those grooves. Secondly, the angle looks different as well. I would revert to what Tesla sales told me, non active spoiler on non Perfs, and not have any false hopes for when I get my X.
As for software, its completely possible the current firmware does not have the params/config coding to discover a present vs. absent spoiler servo motor. Hence it shows a non functional menu item which could later vanish on a later firmware with spolier-servo discovery/sensing.

That's definitely an active spoiler that isn't functioning properly. Get it checked out.

Your car needs some of the spoiler viagra my car is taking. My spoiler won't stay down for more than a few minutes and then it's erect again. :)

Thanks, guys. I thought it looked like the active one when I picked up the car. But my DS assumed it was fixed because he had heard the new 90D's were coming out with fixed spoilers. I'll call my service center and have them look at it. I just thought maybe they are installing the fixed spoilers in the aerodynamic position. I guess that doesn't make a lot of sense because it definitely block visibility out of the back window.
