A Few Quick Further P3D Driving Impressions

Woke up psyched and did a quick Sepulveda/Mulholland lap.

Power is stellar.

Handling is amazing, too ... for folks like me. Real performance/track aficionados will probably want the Performance Upgrade Package ... and perhaps different rubber than Tesla supplies.

Ride is very good ... about the same as 3LR with gen 2 suspension. Perhaps slightly more floaty, jiggly, even at 41 psi ... but, of course, that's with brand new tires/shocks.

Front motor whine much more muted than with S85D. Have to turn music and AC off to really hear it. On hard acceleration, the sounds of rubber grabbing pavement is louder than the whine ... and it does grab pavement!

All in all, very positive!!

Does the wheel well gap look similar to the RWD LR?

I have another question if you don’t mind. How does braking feel compared to RWD LR? Curious if Tesla did anything different to help stop the additional 267lbs for the AWD and performance versions that have the silver calipers. Maybe stronger regen or slightly larger/thicker rotors?

Regen is stronger, although not hugely so.

Similar to S85D.

Will it be quicker around a track than its rivals like BMW M3, Audi RS4 etc based on your test drive?

If its not as quick around a track as an RS4 I would be disappointed

How do you know which keycard to take since you have 2 M3s?

My wife and I each take both, in case we switch.

Each of us puts "ours" in the wallet on top, with the other underneath and upside down.

Yes. My wife didn't like the idea and wanted me to get Midnight Silver.

However, I've had that color on my S and on two earlier cars. But never a red.

Hence, my mid-life red car desire trumped common sense ...

Haven't found a place and time to do this. However, on my test drive, it was 0-80 ... by the top of a very short on-ramp.

Definitely enough of a kick to make me woozy. Having calibrated my wooziness indicator over the years on S85D (4.2), S P85D loaner (3.2), and S 100D test drive (2.5?), I'd say 3.5 seems spot on!

None. Zero.

Other than the heft-in-a-crash, carrying capacity and single screen tradeoffs one makes moving from an S to a 3.

Definitely the best car I've ever owned. Darned close to perfect!

I've driven S4 and S5 ... but never RS 4/5 ... and never on a track.
