A Truly "Ludacris" Audio System

Here is a write up with pictures and a video walk through on the latest one off audio system upgrade for the Model S.

@Xenoilphobe

Starting out with the audio, we went with the Focal NO.6 Utopia in the fronts run fully active, powered by a Mosconi ZERO4 Amplifier. I built custom a-pillars to house the Utopia tweeter which play on axis. The pillars were designed to mimic the deep cove which can be found on the door panels up near the handle. The pillars were rewrapped in matching black Alcantara suede. Custom speaker adapters were created to flush mount the Utopia woofer. The inside of the doors were fully sound dampened and treated with Blackhole Tile.

The rear speakers were a set of Focal Flax PC165F. Custom speaker adapters were fabricated using the Mobile Solutions SFS Animal to get them to sit on the same angle as factory. The rear doors were treated with sound dampening and finished off the Blackhole Tile. The rear speakers run of a single Mosconi AS100.2.

The subwoofer was housed in a custom fiberglass enclosure created to fit in the driver rear recessed opening. We used an Illusion Carbon C10XL. The front of the enclosure was trimmed off to match the interior design elements from the door panels. It is finished off in matching black vinyl, white vinyl, silver trim, black grille cloth and carpet to make it transition into the trunk.

A Mosconi 8to12 Aerospace was used as the DSP for the audio system. We have a preset for the Tesla OEM Audio system, and a separate preset for the AMAS2. We run a Astell and Kern KANN playing Hi-Res audio through this source. We completely bypass the Tesla system and have a digital connection between our device and the DSP. This gives us a much better signal to work with as well as the ability to sample higher resolution music.

The amplifiers and DSP all reside under a custom fabricate rack that is finished off with OEM Materials replicated a Tesla style design. All of the equipment is easily accessible with the removal of some stainless hardware. Each amp can be serviced and adjusted without removing anything substantial. Two 5" fans sit under the two press grilles to circulate air throughout the rack. The OEM storage cover can still fit into place, fully concealing the amp rack and contents.

A BattMobile Lithium ION battery was used to replace the OEM 12v battery under the hood and a secondary Lithium ION battery was installed in the passenger rear of the vehicle where the factory subwoofer enclosure resided. A battery rack was fabricated to house the battery, 2 way radio, router and other components.

Finally, multiple OEM panels and dash pad were removed and treated with Focal BAM to sound dampen the otherwise thin plastic.

Super cool installation! Any plans to sell this? How much?

I never recreate a design I have done. I try an keep everything unique to each customer. So with that being said, I typically design a system to fit each customers expectations and budget. Starting with a full solution (front speakers, DSP, amp / amps, sub and tune along with the integration you would be looking at about $7,500 on up. Obviously that price will change with the equipment we are using along with the level of cosmetic integration that we are doing. But everything is hand fabricated and one off to each car.

And this can be really UP ;-) Just start looking at component costs alone.

This is truly the work of an artist who takes personal pride in his creations. I am awed by all of this.
Yup, it sure can. I have done audio systems in these as high as $50k. Some people ask, what a $50k audio system sounds like.....well you have to hear it to believe it. Sound like you are listening to the artist live in front of you. Guaranteed you will hear a ton of things you have never heard before in the music that you think you know. It is quite an experience. Thanks for the compliment by the way. :)

Can you describe the method and wiring you used to add a 2nd 12v battery to the tesla? I want to add a 2nd batt in my trunk to drive my audio gear and leave the tesla 12v alone, how does it keep charged?
I typically replace the OEM 12v battery under the hood with a Lithium Ion. I then run a 12v circuit breaker (typically fused at 300A), and have that run through the firewall down the passenger side into the compartment where the factory subwoofer resides in the UHFS system. I make a mount to house 1 or 2 extra Lithium Ion batteries and connect them in parallel. I then run the grounds in parallel from the batteries straight down to the cross frame where the cargo storage is. That's it. Using the Lithium Ions, it will give you a better cycle life along with a higher peak discharge. Not to mention they only weigh about 2lbs.

Here is the link to purchase the battery BattMobile Batteries, Custom Lithium Batteries

Wholy S! The lithium batteries only weigh 2lbs??? Is that right?

I emailed battmobile a few weeks ago and did not get a response, was worried they may have closed up. It's hard for me to put my trust in a small startup company or store I've never heard of before. But then again Tesla started the same way and a 2yr warranty seems decent enough as long as they are still in business for years to come. Does anyone know if there's a TMC discount or coupon for these battmobile batteries?

Thx for your reply

That system looks great, 2 thumbs up
