Abstract Ocean - Cease & Desist From Tesla - Litigation Sale

It's a shame Tesla doesn't seem to go after Chinese knock offs with as much vigor..
If Microshaft and Hollywood can't stop them... I guess even Tesla realizes there's not much they can do, especially when the government turns a blind eye and/or encourages it. If they stopped all IP and copyright infringement endeavors, the Chinese economy would literally collapse overnight.

Hi all, thought I'd chime in. There's no update really, other than Tesla have so far been entirely closed to the idea of any form of licencing agreement, that we'd very happily take up. Not surprising, and so far we've not been able to get Elon's attention via various channels, including Twitter. The community has been great, and of course, TMC is literally where we started with the FobPockets.

We'll keep plugging away, and will fill the inventory gaps with other great products. It sucks, obviously, but it's not the end of the world. As others have said, going after the US-based sellers that have been around for years doesn't solve the problem, it just means that the gap will get filled by inferior products from no-name no-warranty companies, like the catchily-named "rpqbmy store" above! The same problem exists on Amazon, as one store is taken down, another springs up; it's all automated, and impossible to really keep up with.

We've had many suggestions on how to get around the issue, i.e. by selling "LEAST" emblems (it's up to you how to re-order the letters!), but in our mind that's gaming the system, and aside from being tiring and morally questionable, it's just not the direction we want to go with the company that got us started, and that we love. So it might be a long road ahead, but we'll keep trying to find someone that's interested in talking about an agreement of some sort.

As many have noticed, a lot of things sold out really quickly. The order volume after the first email went out easily exceeded Black Friday/Cyber Monday, so, it's been a mental few days. We're catching up every day, but give us a couple of extra days to ship your order. By next week we'll be back to the usual same/next day dispatch. In some cases we didn't have enough stock to fill the order; if that's the case, and as long as you've not ordered ten of something, then we'll make sure we get enough stock to finish those orders, and anyone else that hit the notify option on the product pages.

Onwards!

Are puddle lights something you could reasonably convert to ‘empty’ with users supplying their own templates?
Not really. We laser-etch the glass at 1000dpi, which is necessary to get a nice, crisp projection. So even if someone had a laser-etcher at home, it wouldn't get close to the required resolution, I think most home version run in the 150-300dpi range (?). It's really fiddly too, we spit them out on sheets at 100 a time (with a 70% yield), doing them one by one would require a lot of patience.
@pete8314 I think an Abstract Ocean shaped puddle light would look much better than a (IMHO awful) Tesla "T" logoed one especially if you could project the 2 colours ;)
lol. Thought about that, but I don't think that many people would really love to have our logo projected. Honestly, I'm not that big of a fan these days, the 'swooshy bit' was all the rage back in 2013, but not so much these days :)
@pete8314 are you likely to continue selling the non-Tesla logo puddle & interior/footwell lights? They're great.
For sure. It's just the T logo puddle lights that will not longer be sold.

I think the ||| one is maybe better anyway - less ’in your face’ as a tesla/brand logo but if you know it you know it.

Where I grew up, in nearby Essex, Escort & Capri windscreens used to have giant messages like 'PETE & CHRISTAL' but much as we all love you both, I don't think you'd have many takers for that either

Just to amuse you two - I had a Capri (Surrey, not Essex) that had an ex Corvette Stingray engine fitted complete with autobox - all slightly breathed on (OK, it was for drag racing).
The throttle jammed open going to work one morning, in the middle of Croydon.

Not that dramatic, road was long enough and I've been well trained on old cars/bikes/trikes so ignition off (carefully) and apply brakes until stop, get out and fix with pocket knife (frayed cable cut down), while trying to make sure no-one had seen me, until I could re-engineer the throttle closure spring.
Total brake failure on my trike was far more exciting
