According to Tesla - Any Deliveires that Dont have a contract already are delayed

Took delivery of my Model 3 today. It was crazy mad dash to the finish line and if this were any other product where we had a choice of several competing models, I would seriously think twice about buying from Tesla again, at least until they hash this out. Growing pains, I know.

A small data point and word of advice for anyone who hasn't gotten a contract yet. Move up your delivery time/date to the earliest possible time/date even if you have no intention of making it. It seems that the contracting dept only has sufficient resources to work on those contracts that are set to deliver...NOW. I called the delivery center several times today and eventually I got my 4:45pm appointment moved up to "2pm". Lo and behold, the contract is ready at 2:15pm and emailed to me. I then had to get on the phone with my lender and beg them to drop everything they were doing and work on my loan so I could make my 4:45pm time slot. They pulled through with documents at 4:30pm just as I was pulling into the delivery center.

tl;dr If you haven't gotten a contract yet and you need time to work with with an outside lender, schedule your delivery appt for as soon as possible. Ask the delivery center if they can move you up. That should get you to the front of the "contract" line. Then reschedule your actual delivery if needed.

Which center did you take delivery at? Costa Mesa or Marina Del Ray?

I took delivery on "contract h*ll" Sunday. It took just over five hours from when my appointment was (3:45 pm) to finally starting the paperwork (around 9:00 pm) at the Fremont delivery center. At any given time there were probably 100 people milling around the center waiting around. They did take our cell phone number - so we killed a couple of hours over at a restaurant.

They are getting to be everywhere here in the South Bay too. But taking it into perspective, I replaced a C-Class sedan with the Model 3. How many C-Class sedans are tooling around in the Bay Area?

The Model 3 is definitely worth it though. Blows away the MB.

I was there as well at 10:45 am. I checked in and the guy said “Your paperwork is ready. Sir I have to tell you that our system was down all yesterday and we haven’t recovered yet. Paperwork is really behind.”

I thought I misheard him initially because why else would he warn me. Then he says “but yours is ready so it shouldn’t be long”

Our delivery specialist said we were about one of 15 people whose paperwork was ready. When we were checking out the car this family next to us asked how long we’d been waiting. I felt kinda bad telling her just a few minutes. They had been there two hours already.

I think we were there a total of 30 minutes or so.

took home delivery today but they were about 90 minutes later than expected. The driver originally called me with details about the contract. She did not call me until about 6pm. Once she realized the payment was wrong, she was able to regenerate a new contract within 20 minutes. Called me back and told me she was on her way.

Had a small scratch above the door which she took a picture of. Other than that, the car is great!
Advice for anyone on the day of delivery, keep in contact with your ISA. I had to confirm with him a couple of times regarding confirmation of delivery. Then he called the fremont center to inform of the delivery specialist name. Hope this helps

Try to.work with a credit union or other lender that will send you a bank check without a contract. Pentagon federal has been great. No stress at all about getting the bank the contract -- they don't need it. You just apply, get approved, and tell them what you intend to buy and how much to write the check for. They send the check in the mail and it is good for 30 days to buy the car.

edit looking closer they may want you to be a member for 90 days to get the pre-approved auto drafts.

So looks like they did anticipate it and got a new system for contracts, but the new system broke. ;)

From another thread just posted....

Dear All,

As you know we are always improving our products, processes, and systems. In order to prepare for future automation, we recently launched a new system for creating our contracts. While we are transitioning, we will not be able to provide your final amount due or final contract until your delivery appointment. This may result in a longer than usual wait time at your delivery appointment – we’re running about 60-90 minutes behind. If you need to reschedule for a new date, please reach out to your Inside Delivery Advisor. We are working diligently to get your contract posted in your MyTesla account asap.

We appreciate your patience, understanding, and continued support!"

so today is the day.. 1045 to be exact and they didn't finalize the contract until after 6 last night. has something to do with using a new system and it takes them a long time to generate the total prices after taxes. my credit union needed the contract before sending payment. so now before heading over, i need to stop by the bank to bring the check. otherwise they wanted me to change days and move it to tomorrow because they weren't ready yet. magically it was ready last night. don't delay your day though. they have to have the contract ready for you when you come in so the earlier the better, otherwise you are just giving them more time to delay.

Where are you picking up from? I had my final contract emailed to me and I had it ready last Saturday, but the car had a paint chip on the bumper so they said the car had to go into the body shop. Come Monday, I check online, and my contract info is reset, I have no VIN, and my delivery date now says Aug-Oct. I'm waiting to hear back from my ISA on what the status is. I called the delivery department and they do show my VIN assigned to me, etc. Hopefully it's just an issue with the new contract system.

So your contract was available the night before?

How long between getting contract to the bank and the bank getting Tesla the funds to enable delivery?

AFAIK Tesla either needs the check from the bank or a tracking number if the check is being mailed to them to enable delivery. I'm not sure what the timing is if the bank sends the funds via ACH. The bank I'm using is in San Diego, so we plan on using the tracking number to enable my delivery.

Here's a trick that worked for me to get my contract in 2 hours, because the Delivery specialist at the Tesla Delivery Center I will be picking up from suggested, did it and it worked!. I have been waiting over a week and my ISA actually recommended I delay my delivery because the contracts are behind....

I have my delivery scheduled for this Sunday. I needed to make sure that the check from my loan bank was sent latest Thursday so that next day shipping has it arrive on Friday. But the bank needed the contract first to send payment, which you all know is super delayed....So..I just called my delivery center number and pressed 4 to speak with someone in deliveries (because my damn ISA is NEVER reachable!!!!....). Last thing I wanted was to go to delivery and they didn't get payment!

So he did a trick where changed my delivery to the same day at 4:30PM (it was 2:30/3PM at the time). Sure enough, logged into my Tesla account at 4:30 and I was able to confirm final 2 questions to release Contract. Called my delivery center again, ask that they sign it, they emailed it to me so I was able to print, sign and send it to my bank RIGHT before 5pm yesterday. If they didn't do that, it takes ANOTHER day for tesla to email you the contract so you can e-sign it (I just got it today by email, a day later)..........So now my bank can send payment in time!

So if you have a cool delivery team at your delivery center, you can try this trick.....especially if you're in a bind....
