Adding radar detector from dashcam power

I recently installed a front dash cam using the unused power cable under the rear view mirror trim. I realize this is always-on power.
After receiving what will end up being a $500 speeding ticket, I dug out my old Escort 9500i. I would like to use the same power source on this as the dashcam, but the radar detector does not have an auto-off option.
Is there any electronics wizardry I can add to turn off power to the detector after the car has stopped? The other alternative is to buy a new detector, the Escort Max series, which have auto-off. Then the problem becomes the need to turn it on after every auto-off.

I just used a mirror tap Into the exposed connector on the backside of the mirror. The connector has a ground and power conductor that turns off with the car. Works great! If you are handy you can solder up the leads or buy it online.

Your radar detector might not work very well; mine didn't. I think the windshield has a metallic film or something. Detection range was severely reduced. I ended up taking it back out because it was more annoying than useful.

Great. I’ll definitely look into that. I used a mirror tap in my old car.

I have used the radar detector in the car before and it worked fine. From what I understood it needs to be positioned around the rear view mirror to work well.

What would be the cost in setting this up so the sensor is outside?
