Age Limit for Insurance on Model S?

Hi, a few months ago my dad, primarily on my enthusiasm, went out and bought a Tesla Model S Long Range... he's never been much of a car enthusiast but he absolutely loves the car and I love travelling with him in it.

Now, as someone who is 19 years old with a little over a year of having a full license, I recognise that it's highly unlikely that I would be able to convince an insurer to insure me on a car worth upwards of £79000, even if it was merely as a named driver on my dad's policy (who is 50 years old with 25+ years NCB), and sure enough after going through about 15 insurers, including a number of specialist brokers, I haven't had any luck in getting a single quote, let alone a quote at a reasonable price.

So, is it at all possible to get insurance for someone my age on a Model S, be it a full or even just a temporary insurance policy (such as one lasting a few days or weeks)? If not, at what age would insurers begin entertaining the idea of offering a quote on a Model S?

Try a broker and I'm not talking about compare the market etc. They have ability to sort insurance that is not easy/possible to find elsewhere.
Ive have tried a bunch of specialist brokers, but like I said, none of the ones I've tried are even willing to offer a quote.

I'll give Novo a try like the other guy suggested though, and if you or anyone else knows of any other specialist brokers then I'll be more than grateful if you could direct me towards them.

I feel your pain.
I remember being in a position to buy a new TR7 (it was a long time ago!) for £3250 from the showroom.
I had real trouble getting a quote until I finally got one for £500.
I was just about to take the pain and commit when I realised it was £500 per quarter!

The Viva lasted 2 more years....

Have you tried Lancaster? They may be too classic orientated though.

I see Novo mentioned above on Tesla Owners UK website so hopefully you have luck with them.

Then there are household names like Adrian Flux etc.

However if you go with a broker, charges get more complex especially if wanting to cancel/amend.

There is also a short term insurance company on the toilet wall at Fleet services... I may be passing there later today :D

Yeah... Ive tried my luck with the likes of the more well known brokers like Adrian Flux, Acorn Insurance, SIS, and a load of others, and I got the same answer as I got with Direct Line and Comparethemarket...

I will give Novo and Lancaster a go however, thanks for the suggestion :)

What do millionaires do when their 19 year old sons want to drive their £500k Ferraris?

Surprised you can't even quote on it. Even if a silly amount of money, with enough money an insurer must want to take on the risk. But I guess you are in a very very high risk group.

Years ago it was quite routine to have an "any driver" policy that didn't exclude anyone so long as they had a license. There was also an alternative facility to standard insurance whereby you could lodge a a large fixed sum that was deemed sufficient to cover your basic liabilities should a claim be made against you. I've no idea whether such things still exist!

Not sure I qualify :) but I use a broker for pretty much all our insurance. I tell the broker what I want and he is responsible for finding a policy that fits my needs, using his nous on my behalf and checking the small print for ridiculous exclusions which his experience tells him to be alert for and which I would probably miss.
