I thought the shape was 2020 and earlier vs 2021 and later rather than EU vs US. Is it? I am not sure which of the 2 shapes I should order for a yet-to-be-delivered LR AWD M3?

Its both, AMER vs EMEA/APAC and older vs newer build cars as well as Model 3 vs Model Y.

Since you are getting an AMER/MiA Model 3 that will be a recent/current build, you need to purchase accordingly.
Wait for the car to arrive to confirm the shape you need. Without context of seeing it first hand, it will be hard for you to guess which you need... unless the sellers spoon feed the choices.
