#3 is a valid option. They still offer coil on Model S.

Coils are still standard on the Model S for all versions except the P100D based on what I see right now in the S Design Studio.

Coils are no longer available for any Model X version. I do not know why Tesla made that change.

Why is getting a Model S with coils no longer an option?

I would guess in attempt to get the Model 3 to market earlier they have moved engineers from "coils for MX" to "accelerate model 3 production". Interesting the five seat option still remains. I would think if it was going to go it would have been gone at the same time rather than deliver bad news twice to many people. The same goes for the accessory hitch which was removed. It had never been engineered and they decided their resources were better used elsewhere. As a stock holder I completely get it. As someone who ordered a car which now they won't make I'm disappointed.

I also think this has to do with what they want to build for 4th quarter. Getting rid of white as a base color??? Crazy, clearly the want the whites to upgraded for $1,500 to the pearl white. I expect we might see the white base option reappear in January?
