There was a lot of discussion about cars parking/waiting with idling engine and the aircon running in the past, especially during the hot summer month. Now this behaviour is subject to a fine. How is the legal situation in a Tesla? The engine is off when the aircon is running, but the aircon itself is running and will generate some noise detectable by police.
It only applies to internal combustion engines: Problems Solutions | Environmental Protection Department
From my understanding, this law only apply to Internal Combustion Engine vehicles: Problems Solutions | Environmental Protection Department You can also see the law itself at: http://www.legislation.gov.hk/blis_pdf.nsf/4f0db701c6c25d4a4825755c00352e35/B3CE1E5CED7F155F4825785000535DAC/$FILE/CAP_611_e_b5.pdf P.S. I am not a lawyer. If you are concerned, get one
"to all motor vehicles with ICEs powered by fuels such as petrol, diesel or liquefied petroleum gas, as well as hybrid vehicles operating in fuel combustion mode. As electric vehicles and hybrid vehicles operating solely in electric mode do not emit pollutants, the idling prohibition should not apply on them;" Just show them the Frunk to prove there is no engine!
If challenged, you can show them vehicle license in the window. The car has no engine size (as no engine).
No, the way to deal with the Police is to let them ticket you minimal objection. Then take it to court for the satisfaction (and media attention) of watching the Judge make the officer look like a fool.
Given that there are so many exclusions to this law, and it is so hard to enforce, last I heard there had been no prosecutions anyway.
