That's simply not true. Around 2006 North Pole sea ice was on track to be nonexistent by 2014, that doesn't mean climate was going to move in a straight line and it would definitely happen. In fact, the ice sheet built back up in the next few years and is now on it's way back down. Perfect illustration of why you don't put linear thinkers in power.Sigh. He referred to a study from 2006 that forecasted dramatic Arctic sea ice disappearance. At the time there was about 2 million sq mile of it - the lowest in recorded history up to that point. In 2012 there was about 1 million sq miles of it left. So it's going away and rapidly. Your comment implies you don't believe it's happening - science and evidence prove you wrong, sadly. Nothing shows the trend slowing, it's actually accelerating - so expect that before 2017 it'll be gone.
Now it is my personal opinion that the trends over the last few years will lead to an ice-free North Pole within a couple years, but I'm not about to go around spouting an educated guess as fact and dictating policy around it.
