2015 Model S 85D just passed 120,000 miles. Still charges to 265 miles. Infrequent supercharger user. as I have 240 outlets at home and work.
Drove home last night with no problems and no alerts. Went to head out this morning, car started bonging at me when I opened doors. Received a stream of alerts on main screen and a yellow alert on the instrument pod. Car would power up, but would not engage into D or R. Car towed to local service center, but they "are very busy today" so the car hasn't even been looked at.
Main battery death?
Anyone see this before, resolution, time to repair?
thanks,
John

Sorry to see that. It could be the 12 V battery that needs to be checked / adjusted, charged or replaced, so you might have been able to just drive your car to the service center. Check this too:

"Car may not restart" - just ignore it
Couldn't ignore it as car power ed up but would not engage D or R. Just heard from Tesla service that there was water intrusion into the main HV battery pack. No details as to how it might have entered. They ordered a new battery pack, but were not specific if just a section or the entire battery.

Wow, yours is the first I've seen for that type of failure. The battery is supposed to be sealed (except for the battery liquid cooling / heating) so I suspect it will be fully covered by the warranty.

In my case the car died the same way but with these errors BMS_w008, BMS_w010, BMS_f008 and BMS_f011. The 12V discharged to low by morning. I put the 12V on a battery tender and left for work. In the evening the car was back up without any movement. The errors point to a HV interlock issue see https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2014/SB-10052449-4313.pdf That means a connector problem for me. It did rain sideways that day for many hours while I was at work. Can it be a leak? Water intrusion?
Today I drove the car hard and the issues still did not reoccur. Will see if Tesla still wants me to bring it in without exhibiting the interlock errors.

Hi exactly the same situation with mine I have a 2014 model S P85 that was around a month ago I'm still driving as the service centre say they can't find the fault I was beginning to think I was the only one who this happened to as if today 24 8 2021 it's still awaiting a diagnosis

Hi John, I had the exact same thing on Saturday with my S85. After attempting to do a quick charge at a Supercharger with 110miles left on the clock. Car would not charge and kept saying 'charge complete' (I had this a few months back and ran a software update which seemed to correct the problem, or so I thought). When I went to leave the supercharging, after giving up on the charge, I received multiple errors 'Maximum battery charge level reduced', 'Power reduced', 'Unable to drive', 'Battery charge level too low', 'Service required' then my battery reduced from 110 to 0 until the car completely died within minutes - I hadn't even left the charger! Car is 2015 model so out of warranty but battery will still be within warranty so I'm hoping that it is actually the battery itself so that it will be covered. What happened with yours in the end?

Many thanks,

Katie

Unless the pack has been damaged.
"unable to drive voltage supply too low vehicle may not restart power reduced front motor disabled"

My 2015 S85 broke down today. There was a pretty big puddle of water in the middle of the street I was driving down. ICE cars drove through it slowly with no trouble. I drove through it and before an within a minute or two of driving I received the above messages, and then the car stopped dead blocking traffic. Within a half hour just after I put it in tow mode because my tow showed up the car completely turned off, steering wheel locked. FOB still was able to open and close the doors and the parking lights worked. I just dropped it off at Tesla (wow! open 7 days a week!) and initial feed back is a "pyrotechnic cable" and a repair cost of $233. They won't fully know until they complete the diagnostic. Car has about 85K miles on it. Battery warranty is 150k miles. Can you tell me more about what you mean by "unless the pack has been damaged"? Tesla is clear about wear and tear etc. not being covered, but if the battery pack or the cover to the pack is what let water in from normal driving and the inadvertent scrapes to the under carriage that is an expectation from normal driving, would that then void the battery warranty? I hear a new battery is over $20K.

BTW: did not see that jesskidog ever replied about the final resolution of the issue.

If they are saying it's a cable repair, I would go with that.

Tesla has refurbished main batteries or they may be able to repair yours if you need that service for less than $2,000. Low-cost battery repair is something people have been requesting from Tesla. It's not only better and less expensive than a new main battery, but better for the environment and will help their image overall. Also as stated previously, the packs are completely sealed normally and do have liquid battery cooling. You may want to ask them to check that the seal is good...I believe it should be since they use a high-quality process to seal the main battery that will help protect it from water or debris intrusion.

I'm also interested in what happened with Jesskidog's car. Hopefully everything is good now.

Because I drove through a puddle of water. Something tells me I had to be more than driving through a puddle. Ideas?

If they're claiming this was due to driving through water, then you need to file a claim against the comprehensive coverage with your insurance.

The 2015 Model S 85/85D should have 8 years, unlimited miles I believe for the battery and drivetrain. I know the 2014 does.

This should probably be covered under warranty, though I am not completely sure since water intrusion is involved. How deep was the puddle? If it was something like 0.5 inches I think that's normal and the vehicle should be able to go through that without an issue. You can show them this:
