I would definitely slow down entering the merging lane and wait for the T to pass by :) The key is to slow down early.

Whether you slow down or increase speed, this is a dance that the other guy also has to cooperate.

A douche bag will make your merging difficult by matching your speed whether you slow down or increase speed. Thats a situation humans cannot handle neither can a car.

NoA doesn't do well with lanes disappearing and merging in general. Not until HW3.0 where it can calculate the safety of X maneuver and do it quickly and smoothly. HW 3.0 should solve things along with millions of more km/miles of road usage/learning.
