40 miles short of 60,000 and my 12v warning lights up.

Still under warranty!

Stupid car. I've had the same yellow top in my 09 Tahoe since... 2009! with 130,000 miles.

seems reasonable. the question then becomes, is Tesla making a profit on that $200 deductible for things like 12 V battery replacement?

my door handles have a bad habit of failing. so for me the ESA will be a must as I approach 4 years/50,000 miles. b/c my understanding is that replacing a single door handle out of warranty costs $1000 -- to say nothing of the $4000 center console replacement.

the only caveat to all this is will my car last the full 8 years to take advantage of this warranty? If a minor accident (think one step up from a fender bender) costs $25,000 to repare -- at which point will the insurance company balk at these repair costs, total the car, and make my ESA purchase worthless?

I wonder if I can negotiate with the insurance to recoup the (unused portion of the) ESA costs...

No ESA. CPO. I'm golden until 6 years or 100,000. $0.00 for a battery that should last longer than 60k.

Which, reminds me, I need to drive 40,000 miles between now and March 2019 to fully use my warranty...

Those are a bit of an exaggeration on those prices there.

So you are complaining that you have to get a free battery at 60k miles?

Not really, When the guy came out to replace my handle I asked what the cost was out of warranty. He confirmed that a handle replacement used to cost $1,000 but sine the V2 and V3 handles came out that cost has gone down to $600. Multiple people have been quoted 4K for a center screen replacement.

I'm also confused how a 12V can't last for *sugar* in these cars, you literally have a battery big enough to power a house supposed to be tending the 12v and it can't manage. The leaf has moved 5,000 miles since 2015 and it's crap-tastic 12v battery is perfect.

Most handles can be fixed with either a $3 paddle gear or a $20 micro switch and harness. Add in 2 hours worth of labor if you are not a DIY person and there you have it. As for the center screen, it really depends on what is wrong.

Fixing it yourself does nothing to change the prices of Tesla fixing it. I can change tires at home, that does nothing to change the price of what discount tire charges if I take it to them.

Ranger just came out to my place on the 7th to replace the 12v battery. I was at 63,500 miles. All covered since its under CPO warranty.

They also did the airbag recall and replaced the drivers door handle. This was all done in 3 hours and just after we had 5" of snow dumped overnight.

Well, quoting in warranty Tesla prices is not an accurate representation of what someone should pay for an out of warranty repair.

True and Tesla's reflex on door handles seems to be replace not troubleshoot and repair. The few cases I have read about were when a ranger brought the wrong orientation handle to swap and instead did the troubleshoot and repair of paddle gear or wiring onsite.

I'm not criticizing Tesla for this since this is SOP at most ICE dealerships also. Swap out the part for less labor rather than repair/rebuild.

I paid Tesla to replace one out of warranty for $895.74, next one I fixed myself for $1 plus my labor cost.

You're upset because your 5 year old 12v battery died and you'll get a free replacement under warranty?
Better short Tesla now! They're going down.

I don't think they are. then again It's been a while since someone has complained about an out of warranty door handle repair and an out of warranty center console replacement. The prices quoted above are the last I am familiar with and have been accurate for some time.
