Tough, light, inexpensive composite brake rotors could make their way to regular cars Any weight savings is a good thing right?
Yes and unsprung weight even more important. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Automobile_handling#Unsprung_weight
Old news. (Is that an oxymoron?) Toyota RAV4EV came out with Al ceramic brake rotors in 2001. There was some problem with squeaky brakes, but Raybestos makes "Quiet" pads. Some drivers changed over to steel rotors for the fix, but I don't think anyone noted any increase in miles per charge or any issues with unsprung weight -- tho there weren't many RAV4EVs that were hot rodding around mountain corners. Other than mine. I kept the Aluminum rotors.
