Does anyone know the exact algorithm used for ambient lights? I suppose they turn on in dark when the doors are unlocked. But when driving at night, they appear to turn on sometimes, and I cannot seem to gather what causes it.

Edit: Just checked the manual. It says they are ALWAYS on when the headlights are on. Is this really the case? I am not certain, but it seems to me that they do go off at some time, even when headlights are on.

Yes, as far as I can tell, they are just always on when the headlights are on. Also in case you weren't aware, the light level is synced with the screen brightness, so if you raise or dim the screen brightness, it will also increase or decrease the level of the ambient lights.
