Look at your app and see if it says Phone Key Connected. If you can easily see the car, odd are that it was connected.

Just because the app says PHONE KEY is "Connected" doesn't mean the doors will unlock when someone tries the handle.

Bluetooth LE range in ideal conditions is 300ft. That's why the phone app will report "Connected" from far away. What this means is that if you are in an area of no data reception, you can still access a subset of the controls within the app, because you have a direct connection to the car. Those functions are limited to lock/unlock, and opening the trunk and frunk. The BLE connection is a prerequisite for using the phone as a key (ability to unlock without using the app controls), but it requires close proximity to function, not just an established BLE connection.

The other functions of the app, like climate control, sentry mode toggle, etc. require a data connection, because those functions must be issued via Tesla's servers through an API call from your phone app. These controls will not work if your phone has no data connection, or the car doesn't have data connection.
