1 week old model 3. Parked across the street from the restaurant I was eating at in the Rockridge neighborhood 1 block from Berkeley.

Black car pulls up and 3 individuals get out and immediately break the quarter panel on the driver side and pop the seat. Looks like they've done this a thousand times before. They move on and keep looking at other cars, eventually coming back for a backpack from one 2 cars ahead of me.

Reported to the police, they said to fill out an online form.

I have Tesla insurance with a $100 deductible. Calling them in a few minutes when they open.

From what I hear that kind of crime is now a slap on the wrist type of thing. IF they even get caught which is unlikely unless they do it right in front of a cop.

Yes, where I work there have been many of these "smash and grab" break-ins. They do it right in front of the security office as they know the guards won't risk their lives chasing after them. Instead we get more memos warning us not to leave anything of value in our cars...

Disgusting! Here in SF and the Bay Area it's so common it's become part of the scenery.
