Another Tesla Screw-up? (Three-position dynamic LED Turning Light)

I have non PUP and I don't have the Dynamic LED's either. Took delivery last week. There is no good reasoning that Tesla could give me that explain why I don't have these LEDs. There is no way that these LED s are part of the fog light. If any SC staff say this, it's a bad attempt to reason it out. These lights are standard. I had a Model X in the past that had adaptive lights. If you believe these were only included in the PUP then it definitely would have stated in the PUP details. I don't see it anywhere in the PUP details, but they did put it on the standard specs. Think about it, why wouldn't Tesla advertise the PUP includes these DYnamic LEDs if they want people to buy the PUP?? There's no mentioning of adaptive lighting/dynamic LEDs turning lights whatsoever in the PUP description. I am hitting them up for mine. This is a ridiculous mistake and a good example of lack of communication between marketing, production, and post purchase service. So yes, Tesla screwed up again!
BTW, I just found out that I didnt have adaptive lighting/dynamic LEDs tonight on my own and search online for info. Thanks for sharing.

FWIW, I think Tesla is aware of all of this and just did not have the supply on hand to fit all of the non PUP vehicles so they may have just shipped them with the base headlights to ensure there would be no issues hitting their quarterly numbers. (This is only a theory of course, but it’s sort of like when the next gen seats came out, they had to retrofit a ton of vehicles once the seats were in stock).

That's good to know I am not the only one. I have reached out to my Sales specialist to see what her thoughts are and she checked my spec sheet to confirm I have the lights package. But she wasn't sure if its a Hardware fix or just a software so we are both waiting to hear back from SC. Even my DS wasn't sure how Tesla is going to fix this but he assured me I will be getting a call. Keep us posted if anyone else has the same issue and how it is being resolved at your SC.

Quick update: I just got my car from the SC with the new adaptive headlights retrofitted. My car was a Sept 2017 build and it came with base headlights at the time of delivery.

In my car, the adaptive nature is only on the headlights, I don't see any dynamic nature in the fog light fixture as noted by some Model S owners. I suppose that's a Model S v/s Model X difference.

That's good news. I will reach out to my DS and see if they can do the same thing here in Dallas SC.

I am not sure if there's any ethical issue with this kind of approach. So apparently only those who complain/noticed would get their lights retrofitted. There must be many more owners who don't know about this screw-up and they will get nothing out of this. Did Tesla hit up every owner back then on the seats?

@SSKMX , FYI. I'm also located in the DFW area with a Model S.

General update for the thread. I received the following from the executive escalation team today:

"Thank you for reaching out. I took a look at this for you and can also confirm that your vehicle is eligible for the adaptive headlight option. In order to make that happen we need to involve the Dallas Service Center who would be coordinating the parts needed and scheduling a time to perform the install. I have started this process on your behalf, but this is dependent on the availability of parts. Once everything falls into place Dallas Service will be reaching out to coordinate the next steps with you"

They did. I’m not sure of their plans with this however. But you’re absolutely right, if someone was unaware of the issue they might be stuck with base headlights.

I have a March 2017 Model X with PUP. I was convinced my "dynamic headlights" were useless or not working and now I've run into this thread. I'm going to test this out in my garage to see if the lights move when I move the steering wheel. I just thought Tesla's implementation of the LED dynamic lights wasn't very effective but now I'm questioning if I even got the upgraded headlights.

I took a photo of them and it looks like there are lenses on the upper half but there don't look to be any bulbs I can see.

Just make sure you have A1-3 in the second picture: Another Tesla Screw-up? (Three-position dynamic LED Turning Light). If your headlights look like the top picture then you got the wrong lights. You car was also completed at the end of a quarter so it's possible you got shafted to meet the deadline.

Thank you for getting this started in Dallas SC. I sent a note but didn't get a reply yet so hopefully with what you did to get this going in our area we will hear back from SC soon. When I brought this up during delivery, the person I was working with was convinced that this feature is only available with PUP. I am glad I stuck to what I said and then showed it to him on Tesla webpage right there and then he went it to check with the management. To the point someone else made above, I am positive majority of people won't even think of checking what kind of headlights they got on the car, so unless Tesla reaches out to all owners a lot of the people will be stuck with the basic ones.

True. I emailed my OA and he was clueless too and just deferred me to customer support or the DS. The folks I spoke with in the Dallas SC were pretty much convinced that the new cars should have the adaptive lights but just didn't understand why. But as you said, it depends on who you ask.

I took a few photos today and realize a few things... 1) It looks like I have the dynamic lights but I (painfully) drysteered both ways and couldn't see any visible change in the lighting?? and 2) my headlights look amazing until I take a closeup and see how pitted they are!

4th image is low-beam, 5th is high beams. Last two are wheel turned either way... I see now that I may have been situated a little lower on the last one (wheels turned to the right) so they look brighter but I couldn't see any difference when turning the wheel. I also tried it with the vehicle in "drive" and saw that the cornering lights came on when you turn the wheel but this isn't what I would call "dynamic" LED headlights...

EDIT: I did NOT figure out how to turn on the upper bank of lights (above the lower 6).

Closeup to show that the LED light is actually not visible you just see the reflectors illuminate.

Low beam... I think all 6 lower bulbs are on but the first 2 seem not as bright?

High-beams... bulbs 1, 2, 5, 6 seem way brighter.

They come on when you put the car in reverse.

You have to have adaptive lights turned on in the settings, you have to be in Drive, the headlights have to be on, and you have to turn the wheel... or you can set your turn indicator or go into Reverse

I followed up again today with the SC. I was told that the parts were VIN specific and they didn't have an ETA.

Which in and of itself doesn't make any sense so more follow up...

UPDATE FROM SC:

The term “VIN specific” only refers to identifying a list of cars that are specifically affected. I am not aware of any particular order by which they are fulfilling these parts needs
