This sentence is supposed to highlight the unlikeliness of success:

It will be a thrilling spectacle for children of all ages but I'm not willing to give 50:1 odds that Tesla will pull it off without a hitch and deliver 5,000 EVs per quarter when all of the other EV manufacturers combined are having a hard time getting to 7,500 units a year.

However, Nissan has built about 20,000 Leaf-s in its first year, by itself. Not combined with anything. Then, Tesla doesn't need to build them without hitches: that's what the current Q3 slow ramp-up is for, to deal with all those little problems. Elon said more than a hundred. This is not a we-think-there-wont-be-a-single-problem operation. They allocated a full 3 months to deal with resolving the problems. Part of the advantage of a slow ramp-up is that you won't need huge recalls if any are necessary.

So when/if that "1" of 50:1 happens, is he going to say Tesla was lucky, or admit that he didn't correctly portray the situation? I think the clue is the statement about "EV manufacturers combined are having a hard time getting to 7,500 units a year", which was already proven wrong, IMHO.

When Tesla delivers the 5,000 Model S by the end of the year (hopefully), and still has 8-10K reservations, maybe he'll move onto verbally assaulting his next victim (company). The best way to shutup a loudmouth like Peterson is with success and results.

He has deep ties to the oil industry as well as substantial investment in PbC battery technology from Axion, which might work for stop start but has no use in EV's. In other words a successful EV industry would cost him money.
