Any after market for Hitch Cover Plate?

HI All,

removing the hitch cover plate is less then desirable with no great way to grab it

has any after market companies come up with a replacement plate/grab method to remove?

if not hopefully someone will soon

Model Y Hitch Cover Removal Tools | LivingTesla is a tool I found (don't have my MY yet) and if you have access to a 3D printer, you can make them yourself with thingiverse.com/thing:4519825

I have no idea if the tool actually makes it easier to remove, but I will be making them myself when I get my MY.

I plan on making one and selling it as soon I get my Y. Probably be powder coated ring that hides the tabs and leaves the opening open for the hitch.

They should have made it a screw-in design to begin with. Hopefully, they can rectify that in the future.

Either a magnetic one or one that fits in the hitch when not in use to cover the hole would be great. Easy on and off.

No problems pulling it out? I would be afraid repetitive on/off would damage the clips.

I love the ingenuity. Not sure I like the look (for me). I'd prefer it clean and unobtrusive. The hitch cover isn't necessary something I want to draw attention to. Although, the logo is better than a generic cabinet pull.

What I'd love to see from the aftermarket (or Tesla) is a magnetic latch like is used for baby proofing a kitchen. Latched when closed, but that can be opened with a small magnet pull.

This...I use LT’s tools and made the cover mod they suggested. So much easier removing the cover.

Am I the only Y owner who has the hitch (I think!) but has never taken the cover off to confirm?
I figure in due time someone will offer a good cover which I will then promptly order. I did order the tools referenced in earlier threads so that should help. I do have the tow hitch software setting though.

I've taken off my hitch cover (to confirm that I actually got the hitch that I paid for) and have left it off. Besides for aesthetics, is there any reason to try to keep the cover on when the hitch is not in use?

I was wondering the same. If it adjusted aerodynamics and reduced range, I’d leave it on but honestly no cover doesn’t look bad to me.
