As spring migrants increase daily in central Arizona, it has become increasingly clear how extraordinary a birding car the Model S is.
First and absolutely foremost is its incredible prowess as a Stealth Mobile. We are consistently awed by the lack of concern birds have as we silently glide by. It is far easier to approach birds closely by being inside the vehicle than it is by walking, and birds are far less disturbed by a silent vehicle than they are by any ICE-mobile.
This latter attribute also allows us to discern birds far more easily, as we don't have to fight engine noise to hear a bird. A decades-long trick of mine - to turn off the engine and coast down a grade - always would end in having to turn on the engine, which in itself is an extremely disruptive event. And even all that requires (1) manual transmission (never a problem, for me at any rate), and (2) a grade (and that going in the correct direction....
)
Lastly, the great sunroof is a cavernous expanse to use for viewing tress - and their birds -
it's a GREAT birding tool!
