I'd guess the high Leaf cancellations were due to the very low deposit required. It was, what, $99 or something really low? At that price, you'll get a ton of extremely casual reservations. At $5000, the Model S is going to have more committed folks in the reservation list.

That's a good point.

While I'm not trying to make a case why this poll is scientific, one other point is that many of the early adopters are in fact enthusiasts. Therefore, the poll may be somewhat representative of the demographics of the first 5000 or so reservations holders.
